I like the way you think, DHer! That's Obnoxious! (in the good way)

I quickly did a small script (mac only, sorry...) to capture all pages of a pdf and stores the pictures as png on disk:
Abbey Fine Reader 8 has a screen reader.

You just drag your cursor over the text on the screen you want to copy - send it to the clipboard or MS Word.

I tried it with my PDF book files and it works.

It will also do any of the following:

text to clipboard
table to clipboard
text to MS Word
table to MS Word
table to MS Exel
text to file
table to file
image to clipboard
image to Abbyy Fine Reader
image to file.

I also tried it with a tiff image of a text file but the result needed too much proof-reading.

Well, I'd love to, but I'd guess the location might put a kink in those plans. But, you can add my two Eurocents that I purchase e-books (from Fictionwise) and publishers with a format that would work with the Iliad would be appreciated (ie, ease up on DRM if you want to make money, guys - most folks are honest enough to pay for what they want, and you aren't going to make the dishonest ones honest, only frustrate your real potential customers)(actually, real customers, since I still buy several trees' worth of books a year).

Hey guys, I started looking at some of the links and I'm starting to get pretty excited. I found quite a few magazines I could read.

DHer, I'll be in munich next week, I could pop by, but you didn't say when? I live in Prague. If I come you'll have to let me play with your iliad though!

FYI

I have bought many ebooks from www.ciando.com. There are plenty of German and some English books available in pdf format that allow printing. By adjusting the paper size to avoid excess margins I get readable results with most books.
