I have both units - jetBook and jetbook-Lite. I mostly use jetBook-Lite because I like AA battery part that I use as a holder. eReader format support is a big plus too.

No other reader on the market runs on AA batteries, so if you're on the go nothing can beat a jetBook LITE.
Anything on a rechargeable battery will sooner or later run out, but after 2 years, are you really sure that a newer model of the jetBook won't be out. I mean, 2 years is a long time, and the way technology is going, im sure the next gen jetBook will be a killer. As of now, pricewise, i got my in-laws all jetBook LITES for the holidays and they love it with no problems. |

Agree. I use the same AA NiMH rechargeable batteries that I use with my Canon PowerShot camera and always have extra batteries with me.

Hey,
I like to have one that can use regular batteries just in case I'm nowhere near a recharge source... or w/o a charger. Now that I've been reading twice as much lately, I need backup! ![]() |

As others have noted, what you find ugly, I find as a good handle. Gives me a firmer grip on it. Although I would like the best of both worlds and be able to put in some sort of AC adapter where the batteries go while being able to plug in batteries when I don't have access to an external power supply... I have seen rechargable power packs that I could probably do that with, but none in the two by two form that the batteries are in here... |

The rechargeable batteries were definitely part of my reasoning, and I like that I can quickly change batteries and not have to wait hours for the reader's battery to recharge.
It's comfortable to hold in my left hand, but I would like them to allow the display to be upside down, so it would also be comfortable in my right hand. |

Just my two cents. My main reason for choosing the Libre was the ADE that allows borrowing from the library. I don't go camping or anyplace where power would not be available for several days, and so remembering to plug the device in overnight when the battery icon is down to one bar is a nobrainer. I was concerned that prying open a plastic battery cover and replacing batteries every two weeks that one of these days a tab or something may break then you have a loose battery cover which you have to secure by tape. I have several TV remotes and table clocks that have suffered this fate and they only get their batteries changed every few months.

The lesson is that we all have to figure out what we want in a reader before we buy, so we can get one that suits our needs. |

I gather that people think that the battery that comes with the jetBook/Libre will last two years. If my JBL battery cover breaks two years from now, I may regret my purchase, or I may feel that I got my money's worth and get something new. We'll see. |

I think its more probable that the plastic latch that covers the SD card and usb connection will snap than the battery cover. Both seem solid enough though and I dont think its something to worry about.

I purchased my first jetBook almost 2 years ago (March, 2008) and the cover of SD card and usb connection still in the perfect condition. The battery works 20-22 hours after each charge. I think it will be no problem with my jetBook-Lite battery cover too.

Me too. The SD cover is kind of hard to open, hard plastic, has to be turned, teeny thing holding it on. That's the one I'm concerned about breaking too.

The cover for the SD/USB, on my JBL isn't what I would call "Hard" plastic, it's
more flexable, like a vinyl. Luck; Ken |

I guess in a year or so we Libre and Jetbook owners will be getting together figuring out how to replace our batteries. I see that there a sites on the web that sell the lithium battery and some sort of "replacement tools" for about $30.
http://www.batteryship.com/htmlos/ht...?item=AEJ001SL When I look at the case I can't figure out how you would remove the back, there are no screws. Does one just pry it open by force? Has any adventurous soul tried this? |
