Books via ADE portable??

I was confused. When I read your posts, I thought you were saying that you had two ereading devices, a 505 and a something. A closer read tells me that you have one device, a 505, an installation of Sony Reader on PC1 and PC2, and an installation of ADE on PC1.

Assuming that you have authorized your 505 with ADE on PC1 and can read books on the 505 that you obtain using that ADE installation, then as dwanthny said, you can copy those books between computers using any method that works for you. You can move them to/from the 505 using Sony Reader (or Calibre or what-have-you) installed on any computer. You will be able to read the book on the 505 no matter what path it uses to gets there.

You don't need to use any special software to do this; if both readers are authorised to the same Adobe account, you can just copy files from one to the other using Windows Explorer. Copy the file into the "Digital Editions" folder on the Reader.

Actually, I didn't know it mattered so I had not (I don't believe) mentioned that a 2nd Sony 505 is to be loaded from the PC2.

The 2nd Sony 505 is authorized by Sony eLibrary on PC2 but not by ADE on the first PC. And ADE doesn't exist on PC2.

Thus, I would like to download the eBook using PC1 and ADE then transport the downloaded file (eBook) to PC2 and have Sony eLibrary on PC2 send the eBook to the 2nd Sony 505.

I believe you are saying this is not possible...is this right?

Harry, As I clarified in the message prior to this one, the 2nd Sony 505 is not authorized with ADE as ADE is not installed on PC2.

Short answer: I think that Adobe DRM makes it impossible to do what you want to do.

Long answer: A reader (device or computer software) can be used to read a ADE-protected book only if it is registered with ADE. All devices/programs must be registered with the same Adobe ID in order to read the same book file.

I understand you to say that the the second 505 has not been authorized with ADE. If the second 505 is not authorized, or not authorized with the same Adobe ID as the first 505, you will not be able to exchange DRM-protected books between the two 505s.

Assuming that you have control over both 505s, the easiest thing to do is to plug the second one into PC1 once and register it with ADE. Once you do that, both 505s can share books copied however you want -- email, CDs, FTP, dropbox, what-have-you. You do not need ADE on PC2 unless you also want to use PC2 to read the books.
