Yeah, I've saw that. It looks neat, but on the other hand I'm not sure how good the tablet portion will be with Windows 7 in terms of ease of use, ease of writing with stylus, battery life etc.
And as I don't need a keyboard (or netbook in general) that part doesn't add much for me. Really what I need is something like the Que that doesn't have an e-ink screen, costs $500 or less, and gets 8-10 hours of battery life in standard use (reading and marking up stuff). I think the initial attraction to the Lenovo is that it converts to a tablet.

well the screen folds back and flat. it's still as thick as the netbook is and still running "windows 7 starter" (unless you have a license and install something else. the 1G of ram and atom chip means it's kinda pokey. don't get me wrong. it's great for surfing the web, writing up email, ebooks, movies, etc. i upgraded mine to 2g, and installed a multi-touch screen myself. even tried out some note taking software, it was ok (but honestly, my newton did better) but a real turnoff was the non-integration with windows applications. i was writing in a text box that floated over text fields and the text would be recognized and "typed" into the application. it probably would be easier and better if my screen would fold flat back like that 3T's does, but i don't think it would make me a huge fan.
should any of you get one i'd really make sure you could return it if you didn't like it. |

Yes, I agree, the non-integration with windows applications is a turn off. For those who are in the market for something that's not a full scale laptop and disappointed with the iPad, but want cool features, there may be value in it. Last edited by SCION; 02-11-2010 at 06:03 PM. |

Oh, so that's not the Lenovo netbook shown at CES where the screen completely detaches and can be used as a tablet?
That's the one that I thought was neat, but I was still skeptical about how well the detached tablet would work. A fold around flat Tablet PC has never interested me as those are just too thick, hot running etc. |

I think Bill is really on to something here. A laptop with a touchscreen that can be rotated to the back and that lets you use Windows with a pen, I'm sure such a thing would sell like pancakes!
Well, except that Bill has tried to sell exactly that for like half a decade with no success at all. None. at. all. Funny how he still believes in what might be one of the biggest flops in his career. Right after Bob, obviously. |

My attraction came as a result of new features and advanced technologies that did not exist in the old style tablets. The capacitive screen, 8 cell battery (has to get pretty good battery life) the led backlit screen, it's Lenovo (to me a good brand).
I really like the iPad, but if I got one I would require the 64 gig version (want to put all music, photos...etc) so it would be $700.... At $450 this would be perhaps a good compromise. I like this one better than the Asus eee tablet, and feel it is a better value. I of course realize I can get more power for less money. I build my own desktops and could build something 3 times the power of it.... but I am not planning to use a tablet as a work station. I have a desktop for that..... Anyway..........The ideapad U1 looks very cool, but price and the odd OS throw me off of it.... at least for now, I am of course open to change ![]() |

It seems to be fairly cheap to turn the ipad into a stylus tablet...
http://tenonedesign.com/stylus.php short of meat sticks, of course. |

But yeah, there is some chance the iPad could end working for what I need if writing is very precise with a 3rd party stylus and there are apps that cover all my needs--highlighting and note scribbling in PDFs, word documents and books, a note pad program etc. So I'll definitely be keeping any eye on what happens on that front for sure. |

Windows 7 has been phenomenally successful much in part due to MS's ability to accept their past mistakes and move on. |

Agree.... It is always fun for the wife or I to get a new computer, but I kind of dreaded the couple of hours deleting everything and tweaking.....
