Thanks so much! Actually I didn't do more than any child or grandchild does, it's just that everything I did, I had to do via the computer and internet, since I was continents away.

Yes, excellent idea as a gift for older relatives !

As an older person I am currently using an iphone with Kindle for iphone. Reading with the lights out is actually quite fun as its backlit. But wasn't the whole idea of the EInk thing to remove the eyestrain from the process and wouldn't using an IPad return to this problem?

I think the point with e-ink is superlong battery life. My biggest complaint is the current low contrast caused me more headaches than LCD tech, but I assume that will get fixed eventually.

The big thing with E-ink is the long battery life and the fact that it is very easy on the eyes if you happen to like to read in bright sun or have a 60 watt bulb right behind you lighting the screen. The E-ink screen is very hard on the eyes if you don't have a good light source illuminating the screen because the contrast is very low.

I've retired my Sony Reader in favor of the iPhone for a couple of reasons. The iPhone is easier on the eyes even in poor lighting and the reader apps are more advanced than what my Sony Reader can do.

That's exactly why I want to give the ipad a try. I love my prs900, but I find it difficult to read in less favorable lighting because of the glare from the screen when I'm trying to find a good angle to read. Plus, I can already see the ipad being used more than just me at home because it'll allow quick access to email, facebook, weather, etc... because it's like an "always on" device that anyone can get on and access.
I will be thoroughly using the ereader function and will let you all know how useful it is.

I guess readers of books like us will viote with their pockets in the end...but I do wonder how long it will be before Kindle Android hits the shelves for the best of both worlds. Was looking on a site the other day about a project model called the notionink Adam which has both android screen and an eink style page for book reading...looked pretty good so will keep an eye open for it. The site I saw it on was www.ebookvolumes.com but I just went to check and the story has now been changed
