Cool stuff. Not sure who will take up the project at Sony, but there's some hope that they can produce good hardware. Software, I'm not so sure about. It'll be interesting to watch...I'd love to see Sony produce a good reader/tablet.
In any event, even if they fail miserably and do nothing but reinforce the iPad's market, at least it'll encourage some more competition to come about. What's disappointing is now the name iPad is becoming so ubiquitous that everything will be an iPad killer or an iPad clone. Gah. |

Agreed...especially since the iPad isn't even out yet. Plus, to think other products can't coexist in one market niche is just ridiculous.

Take a look at the following article "Potentially nasty new iPhone security flaw discovered" All it will take is one good virus that can read the iPhone address book and it would probably take down every iPhone out there. Maybe then Apple would be more security conscious. Back to the topic at hand. I want to know what kind of screen Sony will use and what kind of battery life it will have. I already assume they will be supporting epub and pdf. I guess we will have to wait a while for those answers since it doesn't sound like they've planned it that far yet. I'm all for competition with Sony, iPad, Notion Ink and whoever else. Who knows maybe Apple will do something where I might even consider buying one of their products. Sure, none of the apps that utilize the camera will run on the iPad. There's quite a few of them, so "almost all" probably means "any app that will work with the iPad hardware".
I am also excited about the Notion Ink device. More so than the iPad simply because of the screen technology. If Sony's device has a similar screen, it may be formidable, considering their retail presence. |

It's shared storage folder, accessible to all programs from App Store. It's well documented in API. If Apple was planning to lock the content away from iPad, why would they supply such a feature? Besides, it's not Microsoft - they're making money on hardware as well, so if you buy iPad and use it with other e-book programs, they still profit. |

guy was right, Xerox had the genesis of both mice and windowed OS's. And MS Windows owes more to IBM than any other company, as their PC's were the first commercial success for young MS.
Oh, and the Newton was ALSO revolutionary. Yet a huge flop. It is too early to say one way or the other for the iPad. It has a better shot at long life because it builds on the amazing App Store and iPhone success. |
