nikkie. The cam and mic does seem a nice feature. The visual quality seems ok at the youtube video; is it even clearer in daylight? I would probably only jailbreak it if there were apps I wanted that required it. Nice kittens with white mittens btw. Thx!

Yes, the quality is quite good in regular lighting. I was astonished really - I thought it would be terrible, but I was happy with the quality.

Also glad somebody appreciates the names. They fight a lot!

I think it's great. I read on it almost as much as my Kindle because since it fits in a pocket, it almost always with me. The battery life could be a problem, but it recharges really fast. Besides music, there are a lot of useful apps including address book and calendar which come with it. And of course you're connected to the Internet & email whenever there's wi-fi.

It did lead me to buy an iPhone so I would only need to carry one gadget. Fortunately my daughter included me in her family plan so the monthly charge is reasonable. So I'm saying buying one may lead you to want an iPhone. Now I don't have to rely on a free wi fi spot to check my email, etc. when I'm away from home.

Whichever device you buy, you'll also be able to buy books from either B & N or Amazon and download them from your device.

Thank you, that last picture you posted was quite clear!

I would definitely like an iPhone but at this stage I will probably go with the Touch. The monthly fees seem a bit on the high side for connection with the iPhone.

I think there is some portable gadget for giving the device a few recharges. I saw someone mentioning it in one of the threads in this forum....not sure what it is called. This may be handy if I have any trouble with battery life. I'll see how it goes first.

Your post is really appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to post it for me.

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far. You are all very helpful!

With the WiFi, does anyone know what the average range of a hotspot is? I'm wondering how close I would need to be to access it?

Great device but I find the iTouch screen a bit too small for sustained reading and that's the main reason I'll consider an iPad.

Same here with the iPhone. Great to read on, except for the screen size. I do the vast majority of my reading now on my Sony... it is great, but I must admit I grow tired of always having to be near a light source. I have read ebooks for many years and have always had a backlit screen (laptops, PDA's, Pocket PC's, iPhone) so the constant bright lights everywhere are something I really grow tired of.

Hoping the iPad will be a worthy replacement for my laptop (internet/email/photos/light games) and reader.
