Wow Alaska Airlines was first in the customer satisfaction survey. I had one completely nightmare flight with them which convinced me that their customer service left a lot to be desired - ("It's an act of god, so we don't have to do anything, now sit down and SHUT UP, and we may book you on flight tomorrow." - customer service rep in the terminal.) , and have chosen to never fly them again.

BTW my response was to take my family over to Southwest who were very sympathetic and got us booked onto a flight leaving in a 1/2 hour.

I was taking a UAL flight the other day but had to cancel. I tried to cancel before the flight was set to take off so that I could get a refund...I was at the airport. I tried calling the airline like 20 times and each time I got to the refund menu it would disconnect me. Thus I tried to get the refund when I got home but since it was after my flight they denied my refund request.

I am not too sad about not getting the refund since I decided to never fly United ever again. I plan to celebrate when the airline goes bankrupt again with a small party.

I hate to fly, but itʻs a necessity where I am, if I want to go anywhere. I have had good experiences in the past with Alaskan, Southwest, and currently have great experiences with Hawaiian. Too bad I canʻt take Hawaiian to Chicago.

I’m one of the oddballs who doesn’t mind Hartsfield in Atlanta, but I’m originally from Atlanta and have been through Hartsfield so often I could probably make a connection there with my eyes closed. Yes, their claiming bags-clearing Customs-then REchecking your bags is a pain, and customer service at Hartsfield can be a bit . . . quirky . . . but I truly don’t mind it (may be due to the scar tissue).

US airlines and airports I avoid:
1) USAir.
2) ANYTHING through Miami (MIA).
3) Alaska Airlines – three flights, three lost bags, three sets of customer service folks who didn’t much give a damn.

My vote for most underrated US airport is Tampa. For as busy as the airport is, it never feels crowded, and the Customs, Immigration and TSA people there are usually quite pleasant.

The Dallas-Love to Chicago-Midway connection is not bad if you’re flying Southwest (i.e., don’t mind not having an assigned seat). Older airports, yes, but a cool step back into US aviation history. (I used to live about five minutes from Love Field, so I have a soft spot for that airport, too.)
