I think he is asking about ways following strictly the law. Of course you can always create an US account with a fake US adress but then it would be easier and cheaper to buy your ebooks elsewhere, ripp of the DRM and convert to Mobi format

If the server I logged on to "assumed" I was from the US because it couldn't see my IP, why would that be illegal? I didn't state I was from the US, nor did I deny I was from somewhere else.

For instance, if I hadn't said so and if it wasn't written in my profile, would you know where I was from? And why would it be illegal to me talk to you here if you assumed I was from somewhere else that not from Brazil?

If Amazon detect that your Kindle is not in the place that you claim it is, they send you an e-mail asking you to change your location to the correct place.

That's why you would have to only access Amazon with an IP shield.

There is still the possibilty that Kindle will release a new reader soon. The Kindle 2 was launched in Feb 2008, so that's approaching a year.

The DX was launched in.. June? I might be off there. But both are due for a refresh and the next version will probably be color if rumors are accurate. I would 'try' to wait! We could see new Kindles before May.

Except that the K2i and DXi are new models and very new.

But they don't really count, I guess. What's an IP shield?

I went for the Kindle 2 Intl and I haven't regretted it for a moment. Read on it everyday. The only downside is you tend to spend a lot more on buying books all of a sudden :-)

The physical size of the device is perfect if you sit cramped up on a train or a bus and it easily slides down in to your backpack when your done reading.

As for long battery life it's just amazing.

One problem with it might be if you want to lend books from your library. Libraries usually support formats like ePub or Mobipocket secure and will not work out of the box on your Kindle. So if your thinking of lending a lot of books you might want to reconsider and go for a device supporting ePub or Mobipocket secure.

Something like Hotspot Shield, that prevents the server to see where you're from based on your IP.
