The $2 is the actual price, though. They are not presenting it as a free book with a wireless fee, they are presenting it as a $2 book, the end. So if you are not in the USA you have to either lie about your country and never use the wireless for anything, or get it from the Sony store, 'liberate' it and convert it to Mobipocket

She's not an idiot, she's actually quite intelligent...if intelligent was reclassified to mean racist, homophobic, sexist, jingoistic, xenophobic, flag-waving, dumbass lunatic.

Gee, another intolerant and disrespectful post.... As I pointed out to jswolf.... she may not be the author of choice for you, but for many others she is. I do not understand the need to insult peoples fav authors or reading taste. Is your world so small that you cannot understand that not everyone has your world view?

This is because you are a "US Customer", not an international customer (one you admits they live outside the US). You pay a $1.99 per book download fee (and pay it every time you download, so could pay much, much more for a book if you downloaded to multiple Kindles while in Mexico), while internatonal customers pay $2.00 more per book (note, this is not a rounding error - they pay a penny _more_ than the download fee), plus the VAT tax required by their country (which is zero in Canada, but not in all countries).

International customers do not pay a download fee - it doesn't matter how they get the book, via Whispernet, download or to Kindle for PC, they pay no download fee at all, no matter how many times they download the book. They do, however, pay a higher price per book, one time, up front.

Do they charge you $2 a book even if you download it on your computer? If they do that's absurd.....

Read the earlier posts on this. It is not a 'charge' like a wireless charge. It is the PRICE OF THE BOOK. I can't think of any way to make this clearer for you. It is not 'the book is free and there is a wireless charge.' It is 'the book is $2.' It doesn't matter if you download it on your computer or use the wireless. The price of the book is $2 for people who do not list their country as USA.

Thanks for your clear explanation, ficbot. And thank you everyone else for your input. How the extra charge worked for non-USA folk was a puzzle to me.

I'm secretly lusting after a Kindle DX and I hijacked the thread to bring it up. My apologies.

Update: I finished Celebutards and it got better further into the book. It became a bit less dry and less repetitive. However, I don't think most people need Andrea Peyser to tell us that Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Alec Baldwin are idiots. I suppose the opinion would be split on some of the other entries such as Jimmy Carter, Nancy Pelosi and Oprah Winfrey.

On the whole I'm not sorry I read it, although I didn't really read much that I didn't know. I'm pretty sure if you're a liberal you'll hate the book, a conservative you'll probably enjoy it and an independent will find something to agree with and something to disagree with.

You're a very advanced reader, Marcy. [See Avatar.]

When I was your age, I was reading coloring books and drawing in novels.

Hi Don-

Thanks! I love it too. Although I am glad it is an everyday and usually every hour moment around here. He *loves* books. Especially that book, The Foot Book.

And he shows me why children's books will always be books and not on an ereader, even a fancy, colorful and cheap one. He gets such joy from turning the pages and looking at each new page. Pushing buttons on my cell phone just isn't the same, even though it changes pictures. Plus he can nibble on the edge of the books, throw them, and generally abuse them without any problems.

You're right!!!

Sony must have taken it off free access to cool down the debate on mobileread.

They've replaced it with the less controversial "Two Rivers" by T Greenwood and "American Quartet" by Warren Adler.
