I agree. I don't use the cover all the time, and I'm careful, but not everyone is - and you shouldn't expect it to be necessary to be extraordinarily careful around something like this. I don't have the issue myself, but I can easily understand it why people complain.

The letter Amazon sent out is a transparent attempt to provide cover for an obviously defective design. What they should do is recall the covers already sold and install a fix--either Velcro or elastic straps--and replace the Kindles damaged as a result of using those covers.

A reader shouldn't break because the cover is opened the wrong way.
