Actually, I think mine has more to do with it failing to properly go to sleep. It seems to only have problems when it hasn't done a page turn for a few minutes.

The nook I originally posted about turned out to be defective. I haven't had this problem with the replacement.

I discovered that my problem wasn't a software issue with sleep after all. A post on the B&N forums mentioned a problem with the batteries not fitting properly in the compartment, and suggested adding a shim to the upper right corner. I used a couple strips from a business card, and it hasn't frozen since.
