I agree with you. I think they haven't embraced the 'new' technology yet and are afraid of the big new world and don't know how to handle it. So they bash it because then consumers stick to the known.

I'm with you. I am still dreaming of a room dedicated to be a library full of books with a comfy reading chair.

But you still buy the books right? So it's just an eBook sales instead of a real book sales.

My increased consumption is because its easier on the eyes and convenience.
That must mean I fall in the remaining 13%, which is surprising to me.

I think the premise of the piece is silly. Why wouldn't ebooks sell more books to people who read.

Since I was 15 I've never been able to leave a bookstore without buying something. Now, every time I turn my PC on I find myself in the biggest bookstore ever. Of course we buy more books this way! The loser isn't publishers, it's TV broadcasters.

Unfortunately, ebooks are encouraging me to buy more paper books, which is quite contrary to my intended purpose of buying an ebook reader.

Certainly, a sale is a sale, whether it's digital or physical. As long as publishers can be secure in the knowledge that they'll make as much net revenue off a digital sale as off a physical one then there's no reason for them to fear ebooks. This is why I don't think Amazon's bullying tactics are doing anything to help the medium-term growth of the ebook market.

Ebooks may make it easier to purchase and manage books, but at the end of the day I only have so many hours to indulge in reading, and doing it digitally doesn't mean I'll be reading significantly more.
