Does astak offer any type of discounts for upgrading to a new product?

From the way you worded this, maybe it has a "cam" on the front for communications. Or does it have 2 cameras?
Dear AJ:

Yes, I am sure they mean a web cam on the front!! Good point! Camera on back with web cam in fornt!!

Dear nimblem:

It is a good question but what would we do with the trade-in??

No, there will not be a discount for upgrading but at less than $290 that is still quite a valid price!!

Sorry!!

The Windows Mobile program spent most of the day looking for stupid updates and running the "Thumb Twiddle App" that sucked the battery life down to about two hours.

My Android replacement does everything that the Treo was supposed to do and only needs recharging every two to three days.
Dear pshrynk:

I copied your entire post and forwarded it to the people working on this project!!

Thank you!!

I'm with pshrynk. I had a WinCE phone. It never lived up to its promise and crashed at least two times every day. When I lost it in a snowbank somewhere, I was happy.

I now have an Android phone. Sweet, dear, cuddly mother of god, I love this thing! Stuff just works. The degree of integration between apps is amazing. It is stable and pretty. WinCE is neither. As pshrynk also noted, battery life on Win devices is pretty bad.

An e-reader is different from a phone, but the difference in stability and battery time is still important. A little bit of pretty never hurt anyone, either, as long as the core stuff is there and solid.

As an example of things just working on Android:

I got a free Android app that turns BlueTooth on and off with a tap of the finger. It works. The first time. It's free. To turn BT on and off with the WinMo kludge took an act of ghod and the owner's manual. And a crash. And the thumbtwiddle app that would then proceed to drain the battery so you could not use the earbud without having it pugged in. Hated that phone.

Hmmm... not sure. Perhaps offering a discount with a trade in and sending the old units to under privilaged kidos or perhaps our troops overseas who are deployed. Maybe donating them to a childerns hospital for both the kids and the parernts would be very useful. I know when my son was in the hospital for months every distraction was very useful in getting through the hump. Many parents would bring in books to read while we waited for kids to be released however with the expense of having a sick child buying new books was not always an option. Even getting involved with a literacy program would be an idea

Dear Nimblem:

They are all good ideas and we are already helping charities. We did a Gift Pack fopr Christmas which raised money for Second Harvest. But; we make about $12 margin on our devices. We are not in good enough financial shape to give many away.

Sorry.

I fear you are not charging nearly enough for these wonderful devices.

Oh, but please do not increase the price or I'll have to wait even longer before purchasing mine!

@Pshrynk (or anyone else who may know about this) please

I saw this at Wikipedia about a restriction with using Android:
Quote:
Android does not use established Java standards, i.e. Java SE and ME. This prevents compatibility among Java applications written for those platforms and those for the Android platform. Android only reuses the Java language syntax, but does not provide the full-class libraries and APIs bundled with Java SE or ME
I am wondering what the implications of this means in a practical sense. Would this effect the ability to use java based chatrooms or games on yahoo chat for example from an Android based device?

Having had to support java software, I'm not sure java is compatible with java. To be fair, I haven't done any Android programming.

MS has certainly done their best to break the original java, too.

If you've got specific web pages you want tested, I have a Nexus and can see if they work.

I'm afraid I can't help you there. I'm a true non-believer when it comes to understanding how electronics work. If I try something with my phone (HTC Hero) and it does not work, I chalk it up to trying to do something with a phone that requires a computer. I am basically at that level of misunderstanding of how the universe works.

Amazingly, I'm a moderator here, but Rule Number Four of the Moderator's Room is "Don't touch that red button and we mean YOU, pshrynk!"

But, take heart, because very soon someone with a higher shiny throw will soon come along and answer your questions.
