Haha. I've made several regrettable downloads.
Most of which were free books that I didn't need/want. On occasion, I've made impulse buys that I've regretted (Red Mars - mainly because it was free like a month later), and several other books that I'll never get around to reading. |

It's funny this question has come up. A friend of mine accused me of having "a problem" with impulse buying of books and never reading them. I went to my Kindle account and counted 11 books out of the 68 that I've purchased that I haven't read yet. Out of that 11, 7 books are freebies that I wouldn't have bought otherwise, which leaves 4 books that I haven't read. (Mostly Non-Fiction, I keep trying to read something useful!) I don't think that's too bad. I have purchased over 130 on eReader.com and have read most of them, the ones I haven't read again were Non-Fiction. I have though gone 4-6 months without buying while I catch up!
The question I want to know is.... What is the record for most eBooks purchased? Anyone over a 1000? And I'm talking about books paid for and not the freebies from Gutenberg or Google! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I bought probably enough books to keep me busy longer than a year. I don't regret any of them. It's not like they're taking up space in my house or I'm going to lose or misplace them. Some of them were to replace pbooks that I already owned but a lot just sounded interesting.
That's why I think publishers should get on board with ebooks. I never would have bought that many pbooks even with an equivalent sale. I would have to store them somewhere and would probably misplace a bunch and never see them. -Marcy |

No regrets. I do buy a lot during the end of year sales (eReader.com, B&N-owned and fictionwise-operated), often buying 75%+ of my reading for the year that way; but like Karen, it's all planned out. I don't pay retail. I don't even pay retail minus the standard discount. If I see a book I want during the year with no sale, I wish list it. It's not like they spoil.
![]() Which is not to say I don't spend too much on books, it's just that I can't write my over-spending off on impulse control. It's premeditated. I was looking at some new authors this new years, and was happy to discover several series I was contemplating had their first book or two on the baen free library. Smart move on the part of the author. I'm already set on one of the series. |

I try to be careful, but still buy a few here and there that I will take a while to get to. I was/am much worse with paper books, especially those 99 cent used books at amazon!

I have to admit that Fictionwise's sale drew me in and I ended up buying books that I might not have picked up otherwise. Most of them were books that I wanted and had been slowly trying to buy anyway. It was so easy to get a few and then use the micropay rebates to get a few more...and so on and so forth.
I am guilty of buying books and then forgetting about them, but I see this as a good thing. Every now and then I will get bored and wander through my collections, looking for something interesting. I will usually see a title and wonder what that book was, which ends up getting me drawn into something that I didn't even know I had. It's like getting a new book without actually going through the hassle of having to decide if it's a good idea or not. After all I liked it enough to pick it up, so it must have been worth the effort. |

I don't impulse buy. I don't buy books just because they're cheap. I buy them because they sound interesting to read, even though I still have plenty of books to read.
During the last FW sale, I didn't really stock up books, instead, I bought some books I've been wanting to buy for some time (replacing some of my not-so-legal books): all books by James Clavell, except King Rat as that one is geographically restricted (I will buy it with micropay later). I now have all those books in three versions: paper, audiobook and ebook. |

No. I do not regret.
I never buy on impulse. I don't have spare money to waste. On the other hand, I didn't read even one freebie so far (3 years with ebook readers). I read only what I want to read and when I want to read. Just because some freebies pop up here and there doesn't mean I must read them, let alone rebated books even if their cost would be for £0.01. |

Sometimes I regret my impulsive buying of reading devices ... but then, they make such a beautiful collection, and it looks nice on the shelves.

I've bought over 1700 ebooks over the last seven years - about $5000 of ebooks. I'm sure that are others on Mobileread who've bought more.

Bought a Sony PRS-300 just before Xmas, did not wait to see what the sales would do to price.
Really love it, one of my better decisions. |

I don't think I've ever impulse bought an ebook. Online shopping just doesn't work like that for me, I've yet to come across an online store that I want to just brouse around in. search for author, find they don't have them, or the title I want, move to next store, ditto. Eventually find book I'm looking for, way too pissed off to spend another second online. It's the worst thing about the ereader.
All of my pbook purchases since I've bought the 505 have been impulse. I didn't intend to buy any more pbooks as I prefer reading on the 505. But I can't avoid bookshops as so still buy a few now and again. |

Most of my impulse purchases come from reading threads from others that mention a book I've previously read and would like to read again. I've purchased appx 15 e-books this way (out of 60 total). My only regret is the lack of time to read them right away. I'll get to them eventually.

I have not impulse bought yet. I have however downloaded all of the free books from the Baen Free Library. Considering that a lot of those are the first book or two of a series, I can see myself getting the remainder of them as I need them. Which I'm sure is exactly what Baen wants me to do
