Sometimes....(most of the time, actually).

However, I've never been charged sales tax when ordering from Amazon, for example.

Also, New Hampshire [one of the 50 states] does not have sales tax. From The Department of Revenue Administration from the State of New Hampshire [http://www.nh.gov/revenue/faq/gti-rev.htm]:

For some reason, in Australia, purchasers are not charged any tax. Which is unusual on high value unaccompanied electronic goods.
