It's very much of a personal thing. There's no doubt that the screen is somewhat less readable, due to the touch layer; the question is whether it's sufficiently less readable to be a problem. For me (and you) it isn't; for other people, it clearly is.

Very true in regards to the color of light being cast on the reader. One of my other hobbies is LED flashlights on steroids. Ones that will clobber the lights most police officers carry, to give you an idea. In those, there are different brand LEDs, and even within the same brand are different models and color tints. I tested out a light with more of a warm color temp and it made the reader screen look sickly. Switching over to one that's on the cooler side, which is very white light / touch more blue, it looked fantastic.

The PRS-600 is a very nice reader to own. The only complaint I have is against the sony software but that is a common issue with all of the sony readers and isn't actually a flaw of the hardware itself. The software should be ignored and replace by Calibre or something similar.

Hi, I've bought the Reader 600 because I've never had or even seen a reader of any kind, so I'm confident I'll have nothing with which to compare and have no doubt it'll look fantastic - when I get my hands on it in a couple of weeks. Ignorance is bliss.

Except for havng a touch screen, the Kindle can do this, too - and you can change the dictionary, and for example use a translation dictionary.
