I wonder if there are any eInk readers that actually delete from the reader. Ereader software on my palms allow this, so does mobipocket software.

On my Kindle, whenever I remove a non-Amazon item, it is permanently deleted. When I remove an Amazon book, it is deleted from my Kindle, but archived on the Amazon servers for future retrieval any time I desire. I also understand that if want, you can log into your account at Amazon and permanently delete those as well, but you need to do that on a computer to do so, while deleting non-Amazon books and archiving Amazon books can most easily accomplished right from the Kindle.

Things the Nook needs:

The page turning buttons need to respond to a lighter touch

The sweep on the lower screen does not (barely ever) change the page reliably

The pdf reading capibility is very very poor need to be improved

The battery life is barely two days, need to be improvred and not by reducing functionality

Dump the color on the small screen, it is not needed

Do not flatten the file heirarchy!!!!

Don't need music and photos on an e-reader, delete and improve the rest of the thing.

So I am writing this a couple of months later so it may already be a moot point but here goes:

This is an e reader, it does not need a web browser, for me anyway.

This is January and the page turning on my nook does in fact respond to a light touch, don't forget, it is a button after all.

The sweep works great after a little use and also responds to a very light sweep.
Battery life is poor, hopefully an improved battery will be available. I also have the touch screen to 16% brightness and keep both the wi-fi and 3G turned off and in airplane mode all the time until I need it. Screensaver after 5 minutes and shutdown after 10 minutes.

File system definetly needs improvement!
Also a delete function should be added for the my documents section.

I don't use music but apparently a lot of people I have spoken with finds that a plus, besides, what about audio books. Pictures, definetly, for screensavers or wallpaper!!!

I like the color screen and the fact that except for the 4 page turning buttons, everything else is thru the touch screen, that was definetly a deciding factor for me.

Haha, sounds like a new meme.

This is one of my biggest gripes at the moment. The dictionary is horribly clunky. Other than that I'd like folders / coverflow for my documents area (I assume these will likely stay separate from the b&n purchases, but merging them would be nice also)

Hi All,
A couple of thoughts:
The sweep on the lower screen does not (barely ever) change the page reliably
I find the sweep works great for me, just got used to using it without thinking about it and it becomes natural to use, at the last few words do the sweep and the page usually turns by the time you are done on the page.
Got to give it a break, it is brand new technology, you have to expect a few bugs
Also, leequick1, check out Project Gutenberg and Feedbooks, they have some awesome public domain titles.

Thing I want B&N to change in the firmware:

1) Add "goto page #"
2) Give me an option to name bookmarks
3) Folders!
4) Merge books in My Documents and B&N Library into single display
5) Allow cover flow for all ebooks, including sideloaded content
6) When not in a book, use the forward/back buttons for menu navigation.
7) Move audiobook and music content into separate playlists (and support user playlists)
7a) Support bookmarking of audiobooks.
8) Allow addition/selection of alternate and/or foreign language dictionaries.
9) Fix bug where bookmarks and current place are lost for sideloaded content when new content is added.
10) Store font and font size settings book-by-book so I don't have to reset them whenever I switch between books.
11) Move the CANCEL button on the virtual keyboard into a place where it is less likely to be hit by mistake, or at least give me an "are you sure" option.
12) Allow ebook deletion from on-device
13) All kinds of "sync/work with your home pc" features too numerous to list.
Things I like as they are:
Finger-swipe page turning (what needs improving are the instructions on how to make this work -- have your finger moving before you touch the screen, touch lightly and sweep briskly -- I have near 100% success by swiping my thumb starting on the white, right-hand border, down across the darkened screen in a 45 degree arc to the bottom white border. )

PDF display. For text (and that I what I want to see on my ebook reader, not graphics) the reflow mode is, in my opinion, the best going. It appears that the font size needs to be set to Medium or larger to enable reflow.

For the adventurous among you who've rooted your nook, I've added a few things to Trook to allow browsing the document folders, with folders intact. Some youtube of the local browsing...

Leequick, I am able to delete books on my PRS-700 (Sony), it is one of the available options. Have to be viewing the book in order to get to that option, unlike the eBookwise, but it can be done.
