I have to second Reynolds, and also recommend Vernor Vinge. Off the top of my head, I think the two books I have of his are "A Fire Upon the Deep", and "A Deepness in the Sky" - both are well worth the read.
Holy crap, almost done Pandora's Star. The awesomeness of that book......I have the second one lined up and ready to go. Last edited by mikemck; 02-05-2010 at 02:46 AM. |

I absolutely love Peter Hamilton's books!
In addition to what others have recommended, Richard Morgan (Altered Carbon, etc) is well worth a read if you are a fan of Peter's work. |

Don't tempt me! I've got Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained sitting on my bookshelf, but I've got to catch up on some other books to keep me in the running for reading 100 books this year.

heh, Hamilton books aren't conducive to reading contests but they're so good. I have the same problem trying to do 50 books this year and Erikson's Malazan series sitting on my bookshelf dominating the other books, even Peter's aren't so haughty now...
Some single novels I've read recently I think are worth recommending (although I don't think they're five star books but they are decent sci-fi) Neal Asher (Poility novels fame) - Cowl Alastair Reynolds (Revelation Space fame) - House of Suns, Pushing Ice Iain M. Banks (Culture novels fame) - The Algebraist |
