Watching the news this morning they were talking about not being able to have anything in your lap for the last hour for the flight, so that would just mean a boring final hour, not the whole flight. They were even talking about it being on international flights, not domestic. They also pointed out how some flights (or all, I wasn't real sure about this point) will not allow a laptop AND a carry-on, just one or the other.

Excellent? That is not what reviews of it and studies says. What they say is that it is very easy to work around the security.

He wouldn't have to go through security as a transfer passenger - he'd just go into the transfer lounge (which is "airside") and then straight onto the flight to the US. Somewhat off-topic, but does anyone know why it is that the newspaper reports are saying that it was a Northwest Airlines flight, and yet the pictures are showing what is quite obviously a Delta aircraft? |

This is no longer always true and news paper articles says that he passed a security check in Amsterdam. It is very common to have to pass a security check when you transfer. I always have to do it when transferring at Heathrow.

So the terrorists have won then? Our lives are either disrupted with idiotic rules that serve no earthly pupose other than to make us angry with the officials or we live in a state of terror. Great

I'm guessing this is not just in Memphis, maybe that's why they said it like that?

Of course. This one guy (from their side) gave up his freedom in order to forever impair millions of people's rights and abilities.

I don't think that's true. The one time I went to Europe I flew back from Rome with a connection in Frankfurt. I had to go through a second security checkpoint to get to the US bound flights.

The "system" has obviously changed since I last did it, in that case.

If I ever have to fly again, I plan on getting multiple piercings in exotic locations just to freak out the security personnel.
