ok - so got the reader and plugged it into the computer - it comes up with the window to download the library installer directly from the reader. We clicked ok, it downloaded everything and loaded the library program onto the computer. We then purchased a book from the store without issue. When we try to drag and drop the book from "Purchased" to "Reader" it says "To transfer this ebook, you must first authorize the Reader for Adobe DRM protected content. Would you like to do that now?" with a yes or no option. We clicked 'Yes" and it asked for us to log into the reader store, which we did. A window comes up with a heading of "A device has been detected" and in the window is says "We noticed that the attached Reader of the following type is not an authorized device. Please click Authorize to activate this device." It lists my PRS600 below that as the device and there is button to click to authorize. When I click that I get an error window that says "Failure to authorize this computer to the ebook store (-1106)" and a button to click ok. When you click ok there screen says "Device Authorization - Sorry, we were not able to activate your device, please contact Sony Support (2027)"
We've contacted Sony's live chat (since support isn't open) and they appear to have no idea what they're doing. They had us uninstall the library software, reboot and then reinstall, which still gave the error codes. We then went back to chat, they told us uninstall the original software, then install the 3.1 library software, did that, still the same error codes, the 3rd time we were told to uninstall 3.1 and reinstall the original software...we are getting no where fast. I googled the error codes and came upon a message on this forum about someone getting the same errors and support told them that it was related to maintenance on the website. I asked the chat support person and they said yes, that was the reason for the error codes. They were working on the site and things should be ok in a few hours...tried back and still get the same errors, and now 24 hours later, here we are with the same problem! I am beyond frustrated and ready to return the reader.... any advice? |

Have you installed the Adobe Digital Editions software?

Can you close the library, reopen it, and see if your computer is authorized (look under my devices or something). Maybe somehow the computer isn't authorized? I got these same error codes, and all I had to do was close the library and reopen it after I got my Adobe ID, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Mine indicates computer and one reader is authorized and prs600 is not. Closing and re-opening doesn't help

You've closed and re-run ADE with the Reader connected to the PC?

Not exact sure about ADE but the Reader library-"help"-"about" says "this computer is authorized for Adobe DRM protected content"

Yes, but you need to run ADE to authorise the Reader, not the Sony eBook Library software.

KRL, the only thing I can think of is 1. is your Reader connected when you try to transfer content to it (stupid, I know, need to check) and 2. are you sure you are using the same cable that came with the Reader? That might cause a problem if it isn't. |

I went through this yesterday. Be patient, I think there are alot of people that have Christmas presents and bogging down the site. It may work better today.

Hey Harry and Lilac, silly question, but do these guys have to be authorised right now? I'm thinking that if the Sony servers are bogged down from all of the new owners, and since these newbies here are anxious to use their new readers.... well, can't they just open the reader from "my computer" and drag and drop some books into their readers to get them started?
I never use Library, but do this every time. Don't know if authorization is necessary just to connect to the computer and not go online. If this works, you newbies can download books to a folder called "ebooks" you make on your desktop, and then plug in your reader. Then simply dragndrop your book from "ebooks" onto your reader icon in "my computer." |
