Thanks you guys for the opinion.. really2 appreciate it.

before laying my hard-earned money onto something that i *might* regret later, i think i should hold on for now.. and be satisfied with reading on that small screen device my omnia is.

plus, i heard there are a lot of new cool devices coming in early next year. *cant wait*

p/s: i might or might not wait though.. the kindle 2 with its lookup feature, looks pretty damn tempting!

I'm getting the Kindle 2. If I didn't want 75-100 dollars I'd throw my Cybook into a roaring fire and laugh as it crackles in the flames. Terrible support and the occasional freezing, which Bookeen has promised me a firmware update to fix it for 8 months, will probably never be fixed. I'm looking forward to my Kindle.

There are a lot of people here who want to rid themself of their Gen3s, so you could save some money here.
If you want to stick with MobiPocket, I have to agree it IS a great device. Though it is also true, that the format is at a dead end. Problem with the Cybooks is that (even IF the announced firmware once will be available) you have to choose between MobiPocket and ePub - there is no simultanious use.

If you would like to be prepared for the future, you should get an ePub device, or better, one displaying Adobe ePub and non-DRM´d MobiPocket. (And strip DRM from your existing collection)

I have heard great things about the Pocketbook devices, and would really like to get one myself. (multiple reading software for specific formats, best support I have seen so far, fastest costumer support, among other things.)

Translate your Kindle pid to Mobipocket pid, buy a Mobipocket dictionary with that pid and then "fix" the pid. Sorry for my bad explanation.

My Gen3 was freezing on me when I tried to find out what it can do and what it can't. Now I read books formatted to its needs, and it hasn't frozen on me in a year. Still, I don't like the fact that I bought it to have my entire library on it, and due to the way user interface is written, it's unmanageable with high number of books so I have to upload them to the device a few at a time. Firmware with folder suport is around for about 8 months now, but they only install it on new devices - so if you buy a Gen3, and then someone who bought it a week later gets a nice feature in new firmware, don't expect to see it on your device - maybe ever.

i heard many times lately that the mobipocket format is dying-- really? i thought it is popular.. (coming from a guy who rarely visit online bookstores other than mobipocket )

the pocketbook is undoubtedly ranked high in soon-to-be-mine ereader list, but it's inability to lookup using mobi-dictionary (even with drm-stripped) is a deal breaker to me.. (i heard kindle2 can do that).

Could be that I am living in europe, because here everything is going epub.
Amazon is the only one left using mobi (alternated for their kindle format)

I have to revert my suggestion from lately, as it implemented a never-to-be-available new firmware. Now it is, and even though you still have to choose, the CyBook is now capable of either format (that is, respectively).
I still keep an eye on the pocketbook devices, but my Gen3 just immensly increased its value. Sadly, you won´t get a cheap Gen3 so easily now
