Well it was delivered last night, so I have been playing with it for a day and I am very impressed with it so far. It is so much better than reading on my PDA its hard to explain.
The big plusses are: Much clearer text. I did not realise the difference it would make with better resolution. The button layout is well thought out. I can use it any way round and it still "feels right". The auto orientation thing works really well, until I try to read lying down and then it turns the wrong way, buy I can turn it off so its not a problem. Its nice and light and I can use it with either hand. The screen takes up nearly all the front of the opus so it seems larger than 5 inch. I did not want one with a keyboard on the front like the kindle because I just want it to read books on. you can organise the books on it very easily with the caliber program. Its dead easy to use and makes life just so much easier. The epub conversion using calibre looks great on the opus. Better than the mobi conversions looked on my PDA. It has the new firmware on it. I have been trying all day to get it to freeze but can't do it. I know it must be really frustrating for anyone who has the old software and are experiencing problems but if it is just a matter of updating the firmware they must do it as the ill feeling it is causing must be costing the company a lot of money. The things I would change would be: I would still like the mobi rss feeds on it. Mobi detects the opus and you can send feeds and books to it, but the opus does not recognise them. The books are no problem as I prefer the epub look, but it is easier to add feeds from Mobi. I would love a dictionary on it. I may be able to convert one of the ones I have bought, but I do not think they will work as well as the one on my PDA and mobi books. The page turn buttons seem a little stiff, but I am sure I will get used to them. Overall I am really happy with it and I am glad that I chose it over the sony ones and the others. I just took a chance by picking it because I liked the look of the opus compared with the other ereaders out there, but I am very glad that I did. If I do find any problems with it, or if it does freeze I will post and let you know. Cheers Gray. Last edited by graypal; 12-22-2009 at 07:26 PM. |

Great to hear! I also find the page turn buttons quite stiff. The buttons on the center pad (left/right) is easier to use when your fingers need a rest.
