The point of iRex and (perhaps) Que is that they are very large screens suitable for PDF which is becoming the de facto format to replace paper documents.
what color is the sky in your world? You can't be so naive to think a business can write off 100% of a device off the top AND see an immediate ROI in terms pf paper savings, right? There are depreciation schedules and there are a few cases where one can write off certain capital expenses but as a rule they must be depreciated over a predetermined number of years. Then there is building the infrastructure to support the devices...this costs MONEY and a LOT OF IT.

Everything is not a 1:1 tax write off...try running a business and you'll learn this...also, every country will be different in this area.

My apologies if I have offended you - you seem very angry.
I will try to answer your questions.
First, the sky here is blue.
Second, apologies for being naive. Of course, I said nothing about any immediate returns. I simply make point that $1000 is not a lot for a business to pay. Most of the reviews of the DR state that it is designed for the business end of the market, not the casual reader.
Third, I run a successful small business. My DR is tax deductible because it will be used in my business.
Finally, I know that different countries are different.
Finally, let me add another comment. In my view, the replacement of paper by technology is good for the environment.
The DR is plainly directed at pdfs which is good because it takes a small step towards paperless offices.

Ostler99,

Although I don't necessarily agree with the tone of the message, I do agree with brecklundin. Any computer related device will most likely need to be depreciated (probably over 5 or 7 years - the same depreciation schedule for computers).

As a soon to be business owner, I am actively looking for a device to use in my small business. So $1000 IS A LOT to pay for a device. Considering that I just spent $600 for a new computer system with a 20" monitor, I cannot see myself spending $1000 for the "convenience" of taking briefs or caselaw to court in digital format when I can take a hard copy for less (in the short term).

Although I cannot speak to the worldwide impact of the pricing of the Que proReader, I can say that as a person ACTIVELY looking to purchase the Que, at a price of < $600, I will put in my order just as soon as allowed, at $600-$700, I will take a wait and see approach, and at >$700, I will simply have to dream of the time when the Que will drop in price or go on special because I cannot justify (in my own mind) paying more for a digital book reader than I did for office computer.

Just my opinion.

I'm definitely interested in this announcement, both to see the feature set and price.

I'm more inclined to wait a couple years for some more multi-function tablets with color screens etc., but still interested in seeing how the Que turns out.
