Not going through that again. That is what I had to do when I first upgraded Vista 64 bit to Windows 7 64 bit. If you have to do that, then there are too many conflicts and your PC just isn't going to work correctly. Obviously, Sony Reader Library and the various Abobe garbage that comes with it was causing problems with something on my PC. It is much easier to simply throw out the trash and use another PC that isn't running Windows 7.

I can't find which of these multiple threads I posted it in, but I was having trouble with the SonyStyle store because of Flash. I found that I had to log in to the site and it would then display properly. It was/is acting differently on IE vs Firefox. It's like I'm "sort of" logged in because if I actually log in the display or the three readers shows up, or it works if I log out, but doesn't display when it first goes there and "thinks" it's me. Very weird. |

Try running Reader Library as administrator.

As far everyone else's questions: Been there--done that. I had a clean install of Windows 7 with Admin rights, I installed all the latest Adobe and Sony software. I still had major issues. The main problem was that the WLAN connection would get lost followed immediately by a spike in the CPU usage to 98%, effectively rendering the PC totally useless. I would have to restart to get the WLAN back and put the CPU back to 5% usage. As soon as I opened the Sony Reader Store, the same problem immediately occurred. If you have no internet connection and/or your CPU is staying at 98% usage, yu won't be downloading any darn books or doing anything else with your PC. Hence my complete purging the Sony software and Adobe Digital Editions. This returned my PC normal operating condition. I then installed all the latest Sony and Adobe software on my HP Mini netbook running Windows XP Home. It works but with a strange quirk. For some reason some books get downloaded twice. For example, I downloaded The Iliad and received two files, The_Iliad.epub and The_Iliad_1.epub. Both files are identical. Another quirky occurence was when I downloaded The Summer of 1787 and got the following two files, The_Summer_of_1787.epub and The_Summer_of_1788.epub. Once again both files were identical. The Sony library software has always been second-rate at best. Now it is third-rate or lower, IMHO! And Adobe has always had bloated software, at least as far as documentation related software goes. It is like the two worrst software companies got together and produced a hideous offspring. ![]() |

I would not call the Sony sfotware third rate. It works perfectly well here on THREE different computers. One running XP Pro, one running Windows 7 Ultimate and the other running Windows 7 Home Premium. All 32-bit. But Reader Library works perfectly well on all three. With both Win 7 systems, UAC is set to defaut, no active software firewall, no Windows Defender, & both running Comodo. The Ultimate system is an upgrade from Vista Home Premium.

well. with so many successful reports of the 3.1 software on a variety of systems i think most of us can say the software is of decent quality. there are alternatives as i'm sure you know (calibre for one).
since you're having all these issues, you might want to try to contact Sony support, after all, they are the people who wrote the software. trashing it here isn't going to do you any good. |

Since Reader Library runs on more computers then it doesn't, I would have to say there is an issue with the computers it doesn't run on.

You admit you're having issues with flash (Not a Sony nor Microsoft product), that you did an upgrade vs. a clean install (which many have pointed out has its own set of issues), and haven't taken the time for basic maintenance (cleaning up the registry, etc.). You can't really fault Sony or Microsoft if the Library or any software doesn't run on your system. One user's experience (good or bad) can't be representative of what others will experience with the application, especially given your conditions. To continue to trash the library software without trying to take any steps that have been pointed out to correct the situation makes me just question the motive of this thread in general. Ok. You don't like the Sony software, we've pointed out things you can do to try and fix your situation, there are alternatives to Library. |
