yes, if you need a dictionary in firmware jetBook-lite will be the right choice.

Regarding the jetBook Lite, I noticed something for the first time today.

I went to start reading Aesop's Fables, and there is nothing there! Just a title page and a second page listing the artists who provided illustrations.

Is it ePub or another format?

Kris, I should have said that it was one of the books included with the device. I didn't say that because that was the original thread topic.

I believe that all books that come with the device are txt format.

That struck me as worth checking out, enough to even make use of the USB
cable to access the books.

What I found is that the ebooks in that folder are .fb2 files not .txt, and
that I had the same result as you - only two pages for the Aesop Fables
ebook. The others in that folder seem to work fine.

The Aesop_Aesop's Fables.fb2 file is very large (9,712 KB) and threw an
error when I tried to read it over the USB cable. I only get the two pages
reading it with FBReader on my PC, as well.

I'll try to see if I can convert it to ePub in Calibre.

Luck;
Ken

It seems that that ebook has an xml error that looks simple enough too correct,
but that it refuses to take the correction. ( Not that I am any expert at XML, but
this seems very odd.)

The source seems to be all there.

I may try and see if I can extract the illustrations (.jpg apparently)

Ken, I don't think that I understand. Are you saying that the full text of Aesop's Fables has been downloaded onto my device, but the device cannot read it?

Pretty much. The .fb2 file is damaged, in that it is not readable, properly, by the
JBL or by any program on my PC. The source can be viewed in notebook or XP's
Internet Explorer, but I haven't been able to fix the file so that it can display in a
normal fashion (except for the first two pages of the ebook). The XML text that
is the actual format of the .fb2 file (like an epub is a zip file) is there and appears
complete but is no way to read the book and you can't see the embedded images
(jpeg) that way (just the text representing the binary data).

Fortunately the book can be downloaded off the net. So it can be replaced, if
you want to read it.

I'm thinking that if I removed that file, it would clear up some good space on the internal memory.

It should give you the space, I'm just not sure what would be a good use of it?

I think I'll go ahead an take all the books in the permanent memory off and put them
on my TeraStation NAS, or just to a hard drive.

Luck;
Ken

P.S. If you decide to remove the books from the permanent memory,
be sure and leave the "Books" folder and the "Pictures" folder there.
You can delete all the subfolders in the "Books" folder though.

Oh, and just for the record there appears to be only a total of 100MB in the user
permanent memory area. Removing all the books just gives me ~99.8MB of free space.

Ken, did you remove the dictionary as well? 99.8 is a lot more than I expected.

No, just the subfolders in the "Books" folder.

100MB is not that much, in terms of storage space, not when SD memory
card space is so cheap.

You can get 2GB (20 times your 100MB) for under $10 and 8GB for under
$20.

Besides the fact that you can manage what you put on the SD cards
easily if you install a card reader on your computer.

Are you guys aware that you can get Aesop's Fables from other free sources in several file formats?

Right Aesop's copyright probably just ran out.

Those appear to be simple text editions. Did you notice if an illustrated version was
listed? The one bundled with the JBL claims to have over 100 illustrations. ( I didn't
count the binary jpg code entries in the xml, but it looks about right for that many.
Besides it is a 9,712KB file.)

There was some mention of a way to download the collection from the Ectaco site.
Perhaps the file on their site would work.

I wish I had looked at that ebook earlier, before I updated my JBL, I wonder if it once
worked but was damaged later, somehow. I find it very odd that two of us would both
have the same file with the same problem. It makes me think it likely a systemic problem
rather than a random one.
