One of the things I've found with major network shows is that they tend to fall into standard categories. Often its only the shows that fall away from the standard and predictable that I have found interesting (like "Twin Peaks"). Rather, I find the shows on non-network channels much more interesting. For example, there is an anime show called "Bleach" that I follow (it's on once a week on Adult Swim) and I find it vastly more entertaining than just about any network program I've watched in the last few years. Unlike most major network shows, Bleach often surprises you (there have been at least three points in the series where your perceptions of everything are upended). I've seen over 100 episodes and I still enjoy the series and look forward to each new episode. That is something that I can rarely say of major network shows. |

I only watch a few shows. I do follow House and CSI (in all its forms), but we're so far behind, we'll need years to catch up (we only watch taped* episodes, I believe we're now watching shows that we taped a year ago...
Beside that, we do watch a lot of the various Discovery Channels. And National Geographic Channel, and History Channel. And right now, there's a show (Dutch/Belgian) which follows in the footsteps of the Beagle. They're about to round the Cape of Magellan (the tv broadcasts is a bit behind, the Amsterdam (which plays the role of the Beagle) is already somewhere in the Pacific...) There's not a lot I want to stay home for... Or would put my book away for, if I'm in a reading mode (like right now) * if you don't tape anymore on a tape recorder but are using a multimedia pc, is it still called taping? |
