Probably not unless Sony was to release it in Canada. But it does give a larger screen and ePub and a user replaceable battery (so we believe).

what about the prs 600?
Basically heres what i want. Something that good screen quality, glare is not an issue i dont read in the sun, small size fonts (more words per screen, i hate flipping pages so often on my prs 300), quick page turns, epub/txt/pdf support. the kindle meets all of these requirements, and i think the 600 does as well except im not sure about the fonts? the thing is though, the kindle is $60 cheaper, is the prs 600 good enough to be worth an extra $60? and also i mostly read in my room (basement, not super bright) so its a bit gloomy so glare really doesnt matter at all, and im not uber picky as long as the 600's screen isnt blurry/fuzzy the contrast doesnt have to be amazing. EDIT* id totally preorder an entourage edge if it didnt look so unwieldy/glitchy, if they perfect it or if there is something similar (Microsoft courier ![]() ![]() Edit* after looking into the prs 600 more, i want one ![]() ![]() wont be buying it for a couple days, doing the right thing? or for my purposes is the kindle better? (i doubt ill be using whispernet or the amazon store too much so that doesnt appeal to me, id love it if they offered the economist in canada at a decent price but they dont so the whole updates wirelessly thing is useless to me) Last edited by arekieh; 12-06-2009 at 04:18 AM. |

Ive looked at both the Kindle 2 and the Nook. The Nook seems interesting but did a bunch of searches at both book dealers and amazon sems to havemore books then b&n. And prices were better. I like the idea of the browser, never know when ya might wanna check the weather or something. Sony didnt impress me, they dont have may books to pick from and the free ones well anyone can view them. I am not as fond of the touch screen keyboards... have big fingers and the quirty keyboard on my friends kindle i was able to operate it fine. Lots of decisions lol and you kinda are chained to which ever chain ya buy into... thats what I dont like. Ive thought about getting a tablet style netbook and load the software for pc from both amazon and b&n and be able to read both.

Check this Nook, Kindle DX, and Sony Digital Reader Touch Edition comparison table maybe it will help you to make a decision.
This is a conclusion. - Kindle DX has a biggest screen size. - Nook & Sony Digital Reader Touch Edition has a touchscreen keyboard while Kindle DX only has a Qwerty keyboard. - Sony Digital Reader Touch Edition is a lightest e-reader among this three. - Kindle DX is a biggest e-reader. - Kindle has a best screen resolution 1200*824 pixel - Kindle has a largest 4 gb memory. - Sony Digital Reader Touch Edition has a longest battery life – 2 weeks (no wireless on Sony). |

Notes on the Nook, written on a Kindle because it's easier:
* There's no way to delete samples of books directly from the device. Deleting samples requires the use of a PC. * Pratchett book I was reading suddenly will not format. Tried turning unit off and on, tried archiving and unarchiving, removed and reinstalled battery. Nothing works. * When text contains a hyperlinked note, there doesn't seem to be a way to navigate to and select the link. * There doesn't appear to be a way to export notes & highlights. <><><> NOTE: With the help another MobileRead member, I finally got the Terry Pratchett book to format by side-loading it to the documents folder. When I got the software upgrade to Version 1.1.1 the archived version re-appeared without prompting and still would not format, so I re-archived it. The side-loaded copy still works. |

Jon,
I don’t understand what you mean by history. You can view your notes and highlights for a particular book by opening the book and going to Notes and Highlights, but there’s no way I can see to export those notes and highlights. On the Kindle, all notes and highlights are saved into a text file named “My Clippings” that can be uploaded to a PC via USB. |

I would go with the Kindle - most of the objections I have heard are based on, I don’t like Amazon, or you will have to strip the DRM to move it to another reader" Given that Amazon has the biggest and arguably best priced book library makes them , IMHO, the most likely to get what they want from the publishing monsters which intern gets me what I want which is more selection at better prices. I am not even sure why its important to be able to read the Amazon books on my sony 505 or other ereader device, especially since i can read it on my Iphone, PC and shortly my mac and Blackberry In the not to distant past, a lot of people complained about Apple locking you to their device and their store yet millions and millions of people have bought and do buy ipods and iphones and send dump trucks full of money to Apple for the privilege to do so. It was this leverage that allowed Apple to push the music industry to drop DRM which is what I believe Amazon will be able to do in the near future Just for fun I went through the list of the 100 greatest books as prescribed by eastonpress.com (a fine leather book publisher) of the 100 98 were available on Amazon in Kindle Format 56 of the 98 were free the rest were mostly 99 cents a few were $5 or less i know you can find similar results on many of the free books sites, but for the average consumer, they are not going to sift through those sites, download them to their pc (in the right format), hook up there reader and then transfer the book over. They want what the Kindle gives - i type in Dracula - click buy - read. I think Amazon has set the paradigm which others will be left to just follow at this point. The Nook seems to be the closest in my mind, but it is really new, not available overseas, from what I have seen slower and does not offer the large screen option the Kindle DX does I am in the opinion that the Kindle has the best end user experience and that coupled with its vast library and aggressive pricing makes it a solid win for me. My personal opinion? Kindle. Perhaps by this time next year, the Nook's firmware will have improved substantially to the point where I will have to re-evaluate my answer, but for now, the Kindle is clearly the superior of the two.

Nook Hands on
Quote:
The eink was on par with other eink screens of that size The refresh was painfully slow and it took almost a minute to open a book It was too thick and felt kind of plasticky and cheap The android interface was not really intuitive to me and i had to ponder for a while on how to even open a book. I have owned 6 or 7 different ebooks spanning back to the Sony LIBRIé, PRS-500, PRS-505, Iliad, DR1000, Kindle and Kindle DX. I never found myself at a loss to navigate any of those interfaces, perhaps with time the nook would make more sense to me. In my opinion the Sony 505/600/700 and the Kindle have much cleaner interfaces. The Nook will get the job done and perhaps 2 or 3 firmware updates later it will be a little more solid, but I would go with the Kindle over the Nook after seeing the Nook in person |
