Carson did quite a bit to promote science; like when he invited Uri Geller to demonstrate his paranormal mental abilities on the Tonight Show, but collaborated with James Randi beforehand to make sure that Geller couldn't use trickery. We seriously need a man like Sagan now, who could so entertainingly explain science to the public.

I met him once when I was in college. A very nice fellow, at least on limited exposure. His "Cosmic Connection" is still one of my all time best science books. I wonder? Is there an ebook of that? Nope, darn it.
