Code:
ota_install: C def:patch:patchinfo="/opt/amazon/ebook/config/netfront.ini":checksum failure
Does anybody have the netfront.ini file for firmware version 2.2.2?

Thanks.

update: I've just figured it out. The Savory 0.06 installer changed line #15 in netfront.ini but the 0.07 uninstaller failed to revert that line back.

Line 15, original:
Code:
# 1.9 set imagebound=0, dlmimes=application/x-mobipocket-ebook text/x-prc
After installing Savory 0.06:
Code:
# 1.9 set imagebound=0, dlmimes=application/x-mobipocket-ebook text/x-prc application/pdf
P/S: I have updated to 2.3 without removing usbnetwork
Hum...

Savory 0.07 doesn't modify that line, so I didn't think of the case where 0.06 could have modified it...

Using the 0.06 uninstall would have fixed it..

Will be updating the uninstaller so it fully removes Savory 0.06..

For those where Firmware 2.3 won't install due to Savory 0.06 not properly removed ; here is an update of the uninstaller:
http://www.avenard.org/kindle2/Savory-0.08.tar.gz

It should restore netfront.ini to its original state.

Thanks for updated Savory uninstaller, but this not helped me
I deleted ALL what had been installed:
  • Savory
  • USB Network
  • Unicode hack
but 2.3 update don't want to install.... Is there any way to see installation log to find where exactly the problem is?

Thanks!
Using ;dumpMessages I see:

ota_install: C defatchatchinfo="/etc/hosts":checksum failure

Does anybody can give me original "hosts" file? I have modified it, and now can't remember how to revert it to original state.

Thanks!

jyavenard,
thanks for answer, but this don't works.... I don't know why.... I deleted old file, and created new one using "vi" text editor. Checksum failed again...

Are there any empty lines in file?

PS. Maybe you can post here "hex dump" of this file? To see any invisible characters?

I have found a solution!

Correct format of hosts file:
127.0.0.1[TAB]localhost.localdomain[SPACE]localhost[SPACE]kindle[Enter]
192.168.15.200[SPACE][TAB]usbnet-host-gw[Enter]

Also there was trouble with /opt/amazon/ebook/config/framework.mario.conf – to fix, just delete 1st empty line.

And now, I have successfuly installed 2.3 update!

Running into problems with update on Kindle International from v2.2.2 -> v2.3

According to the person who worked on this before me (I wasn't the one who rooted it), only thing done was usbNetworking install, which has been uninstalled with the uninstaller program now. Not sure, but I'm suspecting that somebody during device hacking might have experimented with start.sh manual modifications/tweaks.

Any other idea of what causes checksum failure for start.sh file and where I could find original version of start.sh (or some other way to fix it)?

Has amazon ever released any statements why this latest update is so sporadic?

Arggh, I was a 2.3.4 update non believer until a few minutes ago - I turned the wireless on again and saw the kindle was trying to update. It wasnt successful as I have both hacks on. So I removed the hacks and turned wireless back on - but no 2.3.4 update as yet. Sigh.
