and what does wispernet do?
Yes, you can put any files on the kindle that you want through USB.

Whispernet lets you download stuff from the Kindle store and other web site like Mobileread and Feedbooks or your own web server if you want.

Whispernet also lets you use Wikipedia (in the US) and has a very basic web browser.

cool, didnt know that, i just bought a prs 300, shouldve been here today but the puralotor truck broke down or something, tracking said mechanical delay . but i bought the prs 300 as a portable reader, the kindle is a lot bigger but seems really nice as well. Depending on how much i like the 300 i might buy a kindle as well . thanks for the info

There is a new update that allows you to directly read pdf files - no more conversions.

There are other limitations in Canada - newspapers and mags have text only - I belive in the US you get some graphics with these.

For Canadians books are more expensive and the selection is not as good.

Some newspapers and magazines are not available to Canadians - Wall Street Journal and The Economist to name two.

It does divide The Economist into a TOC. It works quite well and you even get the photos and illustrations. The formatting is not always perfect in that their can be excess blank space but it is actually quite impressive and great value for the money - which is nothing (assuming you have access to the full online version).
