Lene, I think I would do the same thing! I'm just thankful for the readers. During the main giveaway, when I just had it posted for free, I gave away almost 540 copies! Anything to build up buzz.

I would think that this is a bit different. I'd have to doubt the sanity of an author pricing their book at $10,000! Also, it's an electronic copy, not a physical copy, so the author is not really losing money, he's just not making money. There's a distinct and important difference there that affects people's psychology whether or not they realize it.

When it was free, I'm sure most people are willing to download it because they don't have much to lose if they don't get to it or decide after a few pages that they don't like it. As for paying, many people on MR have a really long TBR list so they end up having to decide whether to buy it now and stick it in the queue, or put it on their wanted list and getting it later.

I absolutely would have downloaded it had I been able to get it for free. Now, I've put it in my library for later purchase. Even though it's a set your own price, I feel bad about not paying up front as I don't really know when I'll get to it as my TBR queue is just too long.

No, we're not losing money directly, but even at the typical price of indie books ($0.99 to $1.99) it doesn't really reimburse the author monetarily for all the time and effort put into writing a book. The free and low-price books are more of an investment in attracting and developing a readership.

The wonderful thing about indie readers is that they do keep such large libraries and TBR lists, and that provides opportunities for a large number of authors. But don't feel bad about not paying up front; even if your TBR list is long, I'm happy to have my download numbers go up, and for the possibility of readers and reviews in the future.

I started reading this one today, and so far, I can't wait to see, what happens next...

I love the way, that we had a report with the characters before all the funny stuff happened... I just need to 'see' how they get out of it.

I'm so glad you're enjoying it, Lene!

I'm very attached to these characters, so I wanted to give them each a chapter to introduce them to the reader, and provide a brief history for each one.

It's well done, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the book.. I normally switch between a couple of books, but I have to see what happens here... and I'm not really into s/f...

I actually just bought it again at Smashwords, because I wanted it on my new reader.. I can't remember where I got it from the first time, but it was not there to download in a different format... and I figured you deserved money for it as well ... Also bought one of your other books - Strange times

Well, I appreciate that, Lene! Strange Times is actually my best-reviewed book. It's a collection of my short stories. Hope you like it!

Hi Robert, I went ahead and bought Storms. I had several other books that I wanted to by from Smashwords so I added them all together and bought them.

Along with Storms, I got Desbarolida, The Lighthouse Chronicles, Childproofed, On the Origins of Joy Boys Chasm, and Ilu'itanu.

I have absolutely no idea when I'll actually get to any of these considering how many books I have in my queue, but I was bored this morning. Boredom can be dangerous to the bank account

I know that's right. All these easy e-book purchases can get addictive.

Well, I appreciate the purchase, and when you do get to read the book, I hope you enjoy it! Happy New Year!

Hi Robert, I'm nearly finished the 50-pct of Storms and I'm loving it! I've just been to Smashwords to purchase it and I also bought Strange Times.

Will you be selling your other books at Smashwords? I'll buy them

Hi cbell! I'm so glad you're liking it. Thank you for the purchase! Yes, soon Peculiar, MO will be on Smashwords as well. I just need to get it formatted. I'll post about here it as soon as I get it done. I think I might follow it with The Remembrance, although that is a very early novel of mine. I wrote it when I was twenty-one. It's very raw, but it also lays the basis for some of my later books. I may have to do some rewriting on that one.

Please do let me know what you think when you finish Storms! I'm trying to decide if I should write a sequel to it. I have some great ideas.

Hi Robert

I have now finished your book, Storms of Eternity. As I've said, I'm not really into SciFi, but I loved most of it - so much I found it hard to put down.

Unfortunately you lost me on the last bit - from the fight with the Cyborgs (I couldn't follow it) till you started calling the Cyborg, who was holding Mike, a 'he' Calling someone - even a robot (which, if I understand it correctly, was once a human being) - who speaks intelligently and has facial expressions an 'it' just didn't do it for me

I have started reading Strange Times and found the first 2 short stories great!
