I received my W1060 today and have been trying to install my ebook apps. It was painful, but I got ubook, mobipocket, alreader, and ereader to install. The problem is that there is no screen rotation. Bummer. Hopefully Coldsun's review will shed some light on this. Other than that I haven't been able to really get to know the device. Hopefully tomorrow I will have more time to explore.

HoundX,

I will give that rotate a shot, but I have several of the rotate utils and all of them cause the screen to go crazy. On the other hand, AlReader2 rotates perfectly.

Ellen,

I'll keep working on the screen rotation. I'm also working on a utility pack (volume control, task manager, and others) for the device I will release in the interim until the next firmware comes out with more features. Don't worry, all of these being public domain. I also have a very nice GUI for WinCE I'm going to customize and make available on ColdSunCreations.com.

Great Coldsun! I tried the others and when I first saw the screen spaz outI thought I had really messed up! I even tried to rotate within Mobipocket with the same results. So far Alreader is the only one that works for me too. Do you think that there will really be firmware updates? If so I wish that they change it so that the Activesync/Disk Drive mode more convenient so that I won't have to reboot everytime I want to change my choice.

One more thing. I had installed some games and they would not work because it needed a higher version of Microsoft .Net. I could tell what version is on the device so I tried to install 3.5, but the device said my version that was already installed was the latest version. So if you run across a better version, let me know.

Ellen,

So far every screen rotate tool has either not started at all or caused the screen to go haywire. I'm going to contact the manufacturer and find out what the status on screen rotation is.

I've also messed a little with .NET 3.5, to no luck as well. I've got some ideas for this and I'll check back in later.

Last but not least, I have two tools running in the tray now - resinfo for my battery and disk/memory usage, and soundwidget so I can change the volume easily from the tray. I also picked up a different keyboard (smaller) that runs in the tray that is a little easier to use because you just click the icon to turn it on and off (no need to click the icon and then click hide).

Sungale's ID700WTA Cyberus - NOT WORTH IT

Very thick, I have yet to get wireless to work, PDF looks fine, otherwise just txt files. very limited memory, had to get a card 1st thing. NO SUPPORT despite repeated emails. Not worth the effort or expense. Oh - 3 hour battery life is stated in the manual.

Yeah I didn't care for what I saw of the Cyberus.

On another note, I picked up an awesome case for my W1060 at Fry's Electronics and it was only $13! I'll post screenshots tomorrow. I'm also working on a custom UI for my use and I'll share that too.

Regards,

Ellen,

Talked to the manufacturer today and was told a screen rotate utility is a top priority and should be released within 15 days.

Coldsun, Thanks for your update. Right now I am not liking the W1060. I hope that once there is an update, I will feel a little bit better.

Are you having troubles with the internet too? It looks like there is a firmware problem. This is why there has been no review from me yet. How about battery life? I've had mine drain down super fast at some times, and at other times I get the battery life it claims. Anyhow, I'll have to write this review soon, and if things remain as they are.... Can you tell me what kind of problems you are having? I want to test youtube videos and some other features, but at this time every time I launch the browser and go anywhere the system slows to a crawl and freezes up (I eventually have to reset the device).

Start---settings---Network and Dial-up connections---TIWLANPI1 click here for a while, until it shows up many choices, click "Enable"

If this resolution doesn't work, contact me freely.

Hi Coldsun,

I just saw your message. I have been busy getting ready for Thanksgiving. It only gets worse as the day draws near.

Here's what I don't like:

Lack of Screen rotation
Browsing the Internet. It freezes a lot. Also the scroll bar on the right seems to work in the opposite direction.
The onscreen keyboard. It keeps popping up when I don't need it and when I do need it, it disappears.
Lack of button. I am surprised about that one. But there are times when I wish I ahd buttons since when browsing the net can be cumbersome. Either the scroll wheel goes too fast or doesn't move at all.

I will try to look at youtube videos and get back to you on that. As fasr as the battery, it took forever before I saw a total green light. I haven't noticed fast battery drain, but then again I haven't pushed the device. I wil try again today and see.

Kathy,

I did what you said and TIWLANPI1 is enabled already. I'm not sure you understood the question. I had internet connection working, but as Ellen says above, it freezes up and slows down. Eventually I have to reset the device. Everything else on the device is working fine, but surfing the internet is not working correctly.

Youtube on W1060

I just finished testing Youtube.

The first time the video would not play. I had to re-allocate program memory almost to the max. Then, once the video played the quality was not very good, I found it fuzzy. Also it takes some doing to be able to see the full video on the screen. I tried to see it full screen from the youtube settings, but it did not work. I tried to get fullscreen from IE settings, but couldn't find the option within IE. Finally, I did see a button on the youtube features that looks like this: <---> and that helped a lot. So that was the good news. There was a message on the page that said, "Youtube is phasing out support for this browser. Please download another browser such as Crome, Foxfire, IE8".

Personally, I don't see anyone that watches Youtube regularly wanting to use the W1060. Maybe in a pinch, but even then that option is going away.
