The style sucks, for one, the way Mr.Brown sees the world is just a complete anathema to my view, for two and his story telling trails along sadly to finish this off quite nicely. Please stay away from this if you don't want to lose some of your precious time!

Dear participants of MobileRead's winter contest, you have just found letter 9. Some of you might not be able to see the embedded picture though. Please note: Letter 9 is a "V".

I just read the Prologue and two chapters of one, and they remind me of the stuff that grows under boats.

These things are horrible!

I've deleted them.

Now you know you have just made people curious enough to read the first chapter. I was able to download the first book when it was still free but haven't tried it yet. After reading the reviews, I probably won't bother. Or I'll glance at it to see if it really is that bad, then I'll delete it.

I've read some nifty Christian thrillers lately, so I'm used to reading books by people I disagree with on some things. Just as I'll disagree with the politics of some SF/fantasy/horror writers (such as H. P. Lovecraft ) and read them anyway. But I can handle the differences as long as they don't preach, don't get all ranty, don't set up ridiculous strawman arguments that make their characters look smarter than everyone they disagree with, and above all, don't suck. Then again, I tend to avoid thrillers about the Mideast because of the way the stories are often handled. Give me over-the-top serial killers and lost scrolls and vampires (and the occasional squid god) instead, thank you.

No intention of reading these, but I am curious if anyone knows whether "Zack Brewer" came before "Jack Bauer."

Good question. When I read the description of the first book I wondered whether Zack and Diane came before or after John Mellencamp's Jack and Diane. Then I had the song in my head for the rest of the day.

It also appears there is some type of campaign to artificially inflate the ratings for these books through faked 5 star reviews. I am suspicious because I see many 5 star reviews for these books from "people" with no other amazon reviews. If true, this would be pretty ironic for a book published by a Christian publishing house.

*spoiler below*

Spoiler:
Of course if you read the book you'll see that its main character Zach Brewer (no not Jack Bauer, but I can see why you might be confused) is a naval prosecutor who has no problem putting away what appears to be in the book an innocent man for an alleged rape if it will advance his career. It is certainly made clear to Zach when he takes the case that if he loses it will be a major blow to his career and that seems to be his guiding ethic from then on, rather than a search for truth or justice. Sorry for the rant.
