I played with a kindle for first time just yesterday
![]() can you also take a note on the highlight? tho i'd still argue that tapping/dragging your finger on the text is pretty unique UI for highlighting ![]() I did like the kindle's screen better than the sony though. |

And, yes, you can make a note on what you have just underlined. Simply go to the word at which you wish the note to appear and begin typing. The note window will appear. To save your note, click on "Save Note." To read or edit your note, move your cursor to the superscript number that has appeared at the end of the word at which you first made the note a click the cursor. |

Also the clippings limit is higher than the Sony and can be circumvented to remove the limit. You also have the option of screen grabs of pages. I'm not knocking the Sony, I just wanted to point out that it is not the only device with highlighting and note taking abilities. The iRed iLiad can do notes via stylus as well but I'm not sure about highlighting. ![]() Edit: I see WT Sharpe gave you a more experienced answer on the note/highlight connection. ![]() Last edited by daffy4u; 11-13-2009 at 02:35 PM. Basically, i saw the error message that you mention above. But if i sync the prs600 with the sony software, and then open up the ebook in the library folder, then I can copy each note individually. (in the sony software, in the 'reader' folder, it wont even let me do that; but once i've synced it, i can do that much from within the 'library' folder). It still wont let me use the export function tho, but at least you can pull the individual notes out via copy/paste of their text. |

You know, come to think of it, the 100 character limit on exported highlights isnt totally fatal. Because you can always copy as much text as you want and paste it anywhere you want if you open any (non drm) document in the sony software.
Its only drm texts that they're not allowing *any* copying on. (For those, if you try to copy text even within the sony software, it wont let you). Hopefully they will relax that policy a bit for drm documents. But for non-drm documents (pdfs and epubs and etc) you can copy any long quote you want. |

Many people, including me, want to be able to use an e-reader for more than “casual” or “leisure” reading. We want our e-reader to help us professionally and academically. We want to be able to highlight portions of a book and not have to retype what we have highlighted. The 100 character limit on Sony e-readers must be addressed.
And we want to be able to cite what we have highlighted and have a page number for our reference. Ebooks need to have corresponding page numbers to hard copies. Is that asking too much? I am aware that publishers and authors are concerned about books being illegally copied and distributed. Surely somebody can come up with a solution and we can all be happy. Glad to find this forum. I hope Sony addresses the problem. If not, I hope someone will provide a work around. |
