There was some speculation on another thread that with all of the new readers coming out soon (and some of them announcing delays as well) that there is a shortage of eInk screens. None of that is confirmed though, just people coming up with theories.

I was beginning to wonder the same thing. The Txtr is now delayed, the Nook is pushed back again and the iRex is still nowhere in sight. The Kindle and Sony might be sucking up all the production. It will be interesting to see if a delay crops up with the Sony 900 or if we start to see constrained availability with any of the other already shipping devices.

I don't know about the 900, but Sony has already been making announcements warning people that if they order the new "Sony Reader", it may not ship before Christmas. As I posted in another thread about this, PVI has had supply problems before. So it wouldn't be the first time that their manufacturing capacity has gotten swamped with new orders. Especially with the number of new devices fighting for holiday releases this year, I would not be surprised if that is what's going on.

I've sent a query off to iRex to see if I can find out any more details from them.
