I've only downloaded a couple of freebies that way from the US store. Other books I wanted I've been able to find either at Bol or at Books on Board (which is cheaper than Bol by the way).

I have the latest versions of Sony Library & ADE. You mean, when using V3.0 Sony Library, you don't need to install ADE? Really? I can transfer the .ascm file into Sony Library and convert it to ePub. I tried moving the ePub file to the reader in Sony Library but nothing happened. I'll try when I make my next purchase.

@CuzManJ: sorry to have hijacked your thread. http://www.shortcovers.com/ doesn't care which CC you have or in what part of the world you are. It seems they have a very good selection of ebooks.

Well, I seem to have both ADE installed, and it looks that whichever was installed most recently grabs the 'default app' for .acsm files, as I just tried checking out a library book & this time it went to ADE by default - if I manually downloaded it to the Sony Library then that went off and got the eBook itself though, and I've had no problems with then transferring it - the only thing is that I don't see anywhere in the Sony Software to set my Adobe ID - mind you, even in ADE that seems to be a 1-off operation - so I've no idea how it would have got that other than probably reading some config of ADE's.

Basically, it should work, but if not, I don't think you're alone - I seem to recall reading some posts about having to uninstall & re-install ADE & the Sony software in a particular sequence to get it working.

This is a bit worrying. I have $40 left on a gift card on the Sony Store. Worked fine a few months ago - I'd be disappointed if it has stopped. The whole IP hiding process looked very tedious - have Sony cracked down?

CuzManJ - your dialogue with Sony is almost unbelievable! I am sure someone more senior will want to do something really fast - US service personnel, serving overseas, unable to access US store. I don't think that meets their corporate values!

Make a stand - you might end up doing all overseas customers a favour!

Good luck

CuzManJ, I'm pretty mad that our troops aren't being better served. I know it's not the book that you were wanting to buy but if you have any interest in reading a horror anthology, I'll comp you a copy of the one I published. At least you'd have something to read. It's available in EPUB with no DRM. Just PM me your e-mail address, and I'll reply with the file.

Yes. Go into finder and associate the .ascm extension with the ebook library. If you have the AdobeID in your keychain I am pretty sure the ebook library will use it... it might ask you to allow it first, just say yes.

It is a GEOGRAPHICAL restriction, not a "citizenship" one. If a publisher only has the right to sell an eBook within the United States, then that's exactly what it means - that the buyer has to be physically in the United States at the time that they make the purchase. If you are working in a different country, as this poster is, that makes you ineligible to buy the book.

I just want to point out that the Sony Library accepts US military APO boxes for the credit card billing address. If there is some kind of GeoIP tracking, then apparently they don't use it when the billing address is an APO. (I most recently bought a book with my US APO address from Italy 4 days ago.)

However, I don't think most military have their credit card bills sent to their APOs in Iraq, so that probably doesn't help the OP.. but I thought I'd mention it for any other military members abroad who might be reading the forum. (If the CC company will allow you to add your APO as a second billing address to your account, that would probably work.)

The OP would probably have better luck with Shortcovers. I am not able to use Shortcovers because they do not recognize a US military APO address as a US address , but if the OP still has his credit card billed to one of the US states, then it should work for him.

Something else that would help the OP & other military members is the Overdrive ebook library. This is the one for the Army- http://army.lib.overdrive.com. Go through AKO to check books out. They just recently started adding several epubs. I know the Air Force & the Navy have Overdrive too, but I'm not familiar with their sites.

I have not recently tried purchasing any new eBooks, but I am located in the Netherlands and using a Dutch CC. I have filled in my Dutch address as best I could, but then changed the zipcode, state and country to somewhere in the USA. This let me buy books in the US ebook store from Sony. I just tried to login and I can still download the books I purchased a while ago.

I have to say thanks to all the reply's on where to buy book and how to handle sony. I recently bought several titles from B.O.B it was quick and easy.

One way to do it is to buy some gift cards from Sony. That can be done via the eBook Library at the eBookstore. CuzManJ if you have anyone in the USA who can do this for you, they can have the info sent to your email address and you'll then be able to buy eBooks from Sony no problem.

Dude listen, I am using my norwegian address with a made up US number and state. I use my Norwegian credit card and it works like a breeze. How they block you from Iraq is beyond me but they don´t block it based on IP!

Haha ... immagine an amazon employee looking up the address. "Okay, this customer lives in '123 Kleines Gasserle, 12345 NYC - wtf?"

("Kleines Gasserle" means "Tiny little Street")
