Ordered the Lite today.

What sold me was:
1. Many formats
2. B&N DRM support
3. AA Batteries - with spares it will play forever.
4. Price

(Not necessarily in that order)

Check out thepouch.com. They make cases to order, size and color. I noticed that they even have one with a strap and a clear front. It has a cover with hard plastic in it which protects the screen.

I just received a response from The Pouch. That was quick!

He said that they have made pouches for eBook readers in the past, and that they would be happy to make one for me. He didn't mention a price.

I've kept track of the price here in Australia for the jetbook. A month ago the price was $439.95AUS, then the price dropped to $239.95AUS (big drop), but the price of the jetbook lite is at $239.95AUS. Are they dropping the original jetbook for the new lite range? At the same price the original jetbook offers more than the lite IMHO.

Sol, I think that the jetBook offers mp3, but that's not something I want. The jB Lite, on the other hand, offers user-replaceable batteries, which is something I do want. So even if the price were the same, I would choose the jB Lite.

I am assuming identical firmware.

Is there something I am missing?

£159.95 that's about $267 at the moment which is some mark-up. How can they justify that?

I quite like the look of the thing but I couldn't justify paying that much more simply for being in the UK.

Yeah, the firmware almost certainly can't be identical. After all, the Jetbook firmware has to deal with recharging batteries and mp3s...

i actually think they are in fact identical.

the MP3 doesn't change from what i know, so the update would only have to do with format supports, fonts, and anything else related to just reading.

i ordered a jetBook Lite a couple of days ago btw. i wanna test it out as i plan on getting a set for my in laws. will make a post about it soon

This can be the matter of setting just a couple of flags/if's in the firmware. I mean, the program can check either at boot-up or at any other time if a particular piece of hardware is there or not and then enable/disable the appropriate options. So if there's no charger unit, the "charge" option never gets triggerred, even if it is coded somewhere within the firmware.

With mp3s this could be a different thing, depending if the decoder is hardware or software. Should it be software, including it in the firmware for a device that lacks mp3 playback would not make much sense, because of licensing fees.
