"No," we don't "need" a new "word" for "reading on screens."
Reading is reading is reading. It is utterly irrelevant if you're reading off of a stone tablet, a papyrus scroll, a hardcover, a newspaper, an ebook reader or a PDA. |

We don't have separate words for reading a book, a sign, Scrabble tiles, or subtitles on a movie screen. Why should electronic devices be different?
The purpose of language is communication. If If I tell my friends I'm going to the park for some light "liseusing" they won't know what the heck I'm talking about. And I couldn't tell them without sounding pretentious. |

I think we need a new word for the act of procrastinating, but I think we can put that off until this current matter is settled.

Readers are more distracted, and retention threatened, by the elements in their surroundings (lights, noises, smells, other people, etc) than they are by the medium from which they read. Then I think we can get started at any time now... |

Seriously....any person who reads can tell you, if you are immersed in a good book, the experience is the same. Its just a lot easier to switch if you happen to find yourself reading a lousy book. |

Reading on a screen is READING. Reading a pBook is READING. Reading is READING. We do not need another word to describe what we are doing when we read from our readers because we are still READING.

Could we benefit from a new word for "reading" on screens to usher in the Screen Age?
