I wonder how much of that was BestBuy marking it up. Retailers don't always follow the MSRP, especially when one retailer has exclusive rights to sell it. It's not like they have competition from other stores to keep the price down.

I definitely will buy the kindle DX instead if the $450 is the final price. I think BestBuy is greedy.

Yeah it sounds like they plugged this into one of their low end computer templates or something and picked 128mb ram or whatever and it autogenerated a bizarre point about expanding it.

There's no way an eBook reader is going to have expandable system memory, there just isn't space for that kind of excess in the case. Though it's a stretch it may have been sourced from materials stating you can add a potential 128GB of space. The maximum MicroSD(HC) capacity is 128gb...

Still, stranger things have happened.

Yeah if that is the price I am not buying it. One minute the store said my local stores had them and a few minutes later none. So to me the sounds like they are getting ready to sell them and things may change. Of course as it stands right now you can buy it and check out.

Lots of buzz and still no device. Irex has done a poor job with informing people when these will actually be available. If it is October 31st tell us. Forget the coming soon stuff on Facebook and elsewhere. At least B&N says 11/30 for its device and we may get lucky and see it sooner.

So is this thing available in stores or not? Sometimes when I check in store availability it is unavailable and sometimes it is available. Is this just a bug in the best buy system? I notice that it only says available when I do a second search for availability (i.e., I try one city, find it unavailable, and then search another city). I can put it in my cart for my local Best Buy, but when I try to check out it asks me to sign in and then, after submitting my info, I get "System unavailable." Any ideas? The higher price is annoying, but it is eligible for their 18 month interest free financing, which is nice and makes the purchase easier to justify.

449$ is too much for me too for this product, I was hoping for 399$ grand total with some random coupon to offset the sales tax.

I was thinking along similar lines. I think it just popped up on Best Buy's website because they are adding it internally. That's probably why it keeps showing as "backordered". It doesn't sound like they're actually taking orders or shipping units yet.

Has anyone successfully ordered one from them online?

It allowed me to put it in my cart, but noted that it was back ordered. I didn't try to complete the purchase, but I expect it would work fine and will ship when in stock.

I noted that somebody above said they got an error when they tried to complete the purchase. Don't know if that was just coincidence, or if Best Buy's system isn't completely ready for orders of this new product yet.

Yeah, my first guess is that Best Buy just got confused. The only way I could see it is if there is a replaceable chip under the battery cover. You pull out the 128MB and put in a 256MB, maybe?

The other thing I thought was a little odd is that the Best Buy page says "Bronze". I don't know if that is referring to the cover, the unit itself, or is another misprint. I don't remember any of the DR800 pictures I've seen being Bronze. Did iRex mention anything about color options?

On the DR800SG box, the color is 'Hanz Bonze'. No idea what 'Hanz' means.

It seems to bounce around from an availability standpoint and I believe if you try to add it to your cart it will show back ordered even though it says in stock.

Maybe it means a particular shade of Bronze, that to the untrained eye, looks like white.

Went to Best Buy and of course it wasn't there but the young man who helped me was able to find it in the order system and it states that 2 are on order for that store and should be here in about a week.

I'll have to go back next week and see if it's there.
