Sorta - it'll try to convert them if you put them in the Library software as adding a file to the library, per the manual, means you want to upload it to the device (ergo the conversion). Best not to.

I will wait and read the manual when I get it. I still don't understand how to get a doc from the drive to the reader if you don't go through the library.

The answer is 'you don't - you have to convert it into an RTF with Calibre or the Ebook Library software. You can't read Word files on the Reader, period - they have to be converted to another format to work.

And this link is what I got from the forums here, and appears in a search for 'PRS-600 manual'. Feel free to browse.

You could save the file as an RTF file in your word processor. Then you can just drag and drop the file to your reader in Windows Explorer.

You're still converting the file out of Word DOC format - you're just doing it in the word processor. The eReader won't handle DOC, period, and won't read it if it's stored on the device.

Haesslich--You are 100% correct. The reader won't read Word DOC files. I was merely pointing out that you do not need to use Sony's software (or Calibre) to convert the files if you don't want to.
