I'm like most here, and I voted 'on the fence'. It really depends on the person's needs. Perhaps because I re-read so much myself, and own several devices, I tend to place importance in ability convert, and in general I don't like something so closed as the Kindle.
On the other hand, it would work great for the non-techie types who just want to read a book once. Finally, I doubt that I would recommend an international Kindle at the moment. Too much content are not available and it's impractical and expensive to send it so far for repairs - and I think ebooks in danish will become available far before Amazon would sell any (if ever). |

Voted yes. I wouldn't recommend for everyone, but most of my friends would be happy with it. In fact I've just recommended it to a friend because I think it would fit well with his personality and reading habits. It's a solid, simple to use reading device, and not necessary for the less-techy crowd. Amazon has made it simple for users to purchase Kindle content.
I bought it for a reason, and I enjoy using it. And if I don't like it anymore I'll pass it on until it ends up in the hands of someone who does. I don't want to turn into a fanboy or something that loves and hates things for no other reason than being different or part of a minority group. It's already too popular for that ![]() |

I've recommended it to a number of people, and they purchased one, and influenced someone else to buy one. I know of 5 people who purchased one in the last 6 months.
I'd recommend a Kindle to any person who is an avid reader. For those people who only read one or two books a year it just doesn't make money sense. Although for those who haven't purchased one yet I would recommend waiting on the B&N reader and see the reviews and stats on it. When I purchased my kindle B&N wasn't even in the market. I think they'll be strong competition, and since their reader allows sharing, and has color those are two things to consider. Still though you have to weigh it against battery life, and screen glare. |

I recommended the Kindle too to a number of people, despite not owning one and not wanting to own one yet (will reconsider when they release the K3
![]() Alas I would not recommend the Kindle, nor any reader yet to people reading exclusively in Spanish or in French, unless they only read public works books. I would not recommend a Kindle to any tech savy individuals either. But generaly these kind of people do not ask as much for recommendations, they will rather go looking by themselves on Internet. |

I have recommended the Kindle to several friends and 2 of them purchased one because of the text to speech (too bad I can't get a percentage)

Zombie thread!!!!!!
![]() But it's interesting to see my almost two year old reply (post no. 16) and compare it with now, where I almost exclusively use a K3 and Kindle apps on iPhone and iPad for ebook reading. It's practical, easy and generally just works. Now I just wish Amazon would hurry up and start to sell Danish ebooks. ![]() |

At this point, I might tell them to wait for the next generation, though it might be a little further out than the rumors suggest. And for some people, Amazon's format lockin is a non starter (though its a tradeoff I'm willing to make myself).

I recommended one to a complete stranger just yesterday. My husband was looking at the Nook Color to be used for work related technical books. As we were discussing it I mentioned how much I love my Kindle, and a lady standing next to me asked me all about it - her biggest concern being reading in sunlight. So I took my Kindle out of my purse and showed it to her. I even explained the difference between the one I had and the Special Offers unit. I don't know if she made a final decision, but she seemed happy to have heard from someone who owns one and very impressed by the Kindle, itself. I left saying that I hope she enjoyed whichever e-reader she chose.
I wish I could get commission, though. Hubby told me that I started a Kindle revolution at his work when I surprised him with his. He said there are at least 12 new Kindle owners in his area alone. ![]() |

As far as I'm concerned it is the perfect answer to the avid reader. Part of the reason I bought one was that my rooms are absolutely full of books and I have no more wall space to store books.
My friend, who is eighty-eight and seems to be going blind, was having to read with a large magnifying glass and struggling when I upped the text size on my Kindle and handed it to her. Absolutely no problem and she is now the proud owner of a Kindle. The only problem is that her husband says that he can't get her head out of it. |

I voted No. Although I personally prefer Kindle, my friends are unlikely to use Amazon as the main source for books. Kindle is inconvenient to use for sideloading by those who are less technically inclined.

So far I've recommended it to at least 5-6 people, and several of them have bought one, and in turn gone on and recommended it to other people who also have bought one.
Most of these people have been serious about reading, and were / are considering buying a dedicated e-reader rather than another device that supports ebooks. I always remind them that the Kindle screen is specifically designed for ebooks, and that tablets and other computer devices aren't, so that if they want to avoid eyestrain, headaches and glare they should get a purpose built ereader! Oh yes, I do have a Kindle Wifi, and love it! I use it for at least 1 hour every day. So far I have read over 110 books on it. |
