Sorry to hear that you are disappointed with your e-reader. Hopefully the new firmware will fix some of your issues. The eslick looks the same as the Bookeen Cybook Gen3. I wonder if you are able to install the Cybook firmware to also help resolve your issues? Have to ask someone in the Cybook forum.

Hehehehe, never been to Tassie, but ive always wanted to go for a visit. I reckon ebooks are the reason the pulp mill got axed, hehehe

The base hardware is identical to the Cybook, both are based on the Netronix EB-600 platform. I work in electronics & computing, so ive been dying to reflash this with the Cybook firmware, however my wife would kill me if i broke it. Support from Foxit has been very good actually, so I will see what happens. I dont think they would accept a warranty repair it it arrives with a broken Cybook image.
