I find I'm recharging the battery more often on the 600 than on the 505, too. If I'm holding the reader, I use the buttons to turn the page. If I've got it propped (like when I'm reading during lunch), I usually use the touchscreen.
And - in general - I don't take many notes or make lots of bookmarks. And if the MP3 player is on, it was on from the factory. I've never used my reader to play music. |

I posted recently about a new 600 draining overnight after "full" charge of (5) hours on USB. However I just posted update to my original problem and after second charge (again on USB), I got ~700 page turns (and ~25 Dictionary checks) before I went to one bar.
As the reader locked up on me this morning, I am charging it for third time since purchase. Before starting latest recharge I checked the reader (~ 3 hours after lockup) and it was functioning again (no longer locked up) and still showed one bar. So I think it needs a couple more "calibration" cycles before it settles in to "normal" life. I only use Sleep mode (quick flick of power button) now and haven't done a full shutdown since the first day. |

Mainly because I have never used that function, have no intention of ever using that function. And don't have any MP3's wasting space on my reader. After all I've got an mp3 player, for playing MP3s... |

Okay I've had enough of this now.
This weekend I am visiting with my sister before going on holiday for 3 weeks, on Tuesday. On Sat afternoon I was happily reading my book. And had 3 bars of charge. I stopped to go out to the supermarket and get stuff for dinner. About 11pm I decided to go to bed. Grabbed my book from the table where it had been on standby since the early afternoon. Got into bed, and discovered that it had no charge. This is ridiculous. So tomorrow I think I will visit waterstones and return it. |

I don't think it's calibration - I think there's a software bug. I was reading with my 600 when I fell asleep in my chair for about two hours. During that time it went from a full charge to "low battery".
I've removed all MP3s from it, on the chance that I'm somehow hitting that - but I think there must be a bug in the latest firmware that's causing this. |

When I went to read it again it started a boot-up and as soon as it got to the main screen it announced "no battery" and turned off again. Quote:
I don't think it can be a firmware bug though. As if it was everyone would be complaining not just one or 2 people. Also I've had the random freezes 3-4 times in the past week or so. No memory cards inserted which I know was an issue for others. |

Okay, had a word with waterstones this morning...
They advised me to try and get a fix from Sony. Which I am not required to do by the SoGA I decided to be nice and try Sony before moaning. Sony said "Yes there is definatly something wrong, but you will have to send it in to our repair centre in Wales". As I go away tomorrow for 3 weeks this is not going to be possible. So it's back to Waterstones. |

I took my 505 (which had a faulty screen controller) to Waterstone's Cardiff, on 15 September. They sent it on to Sony and I'm still waiting for it back.
Nobody has even sent me an apology or explanation for the ridiculous delay. They had better add this missing month to my warranty. I am not very happy about this. |

I think I will be insisting on a refund. Particularly as I'm going away tomorrow.

Well I failed at getting a refund.
They did replace my 600 though. The bloke that dealt with it got in quite a strop when I said that sending it for repair was not an option due to me going on holiday for several weeks tomorrow. Apparently me previously explaining to him that Sony had already offered to repair it, but that that wasn't acceptable as I was going on Holiday tomorrow wasn't clear enough. When explaining further he walked off in a strop saying "We can read between the lines, but it helps if you just tell us in the first place". Last edited by Riocaz; 10-19-2009 at 11:44 AM. |

I actually had a similar problem twice after my 3rd and 4th charge. I read through some threads with similar problems and one suggestion is that the use of a memory stick could be the culprit since it might draw power even when the device is off. On both occasions when my reader went completely flat, it happened over a mere 3 or 4 days from 4 bars to none. Anyway, I have removed my MS and it has been 10 days and my reader is now down to 2 bars. I'm still monitoring the situation...
Riocaz, did you have any memory cards inserted? |

A memory stick will not draw power when the device is off, but, as you know, the device is NOT "off" unless you shut it down. When it's in its normal "standby" mode with a blank screen and locked buttons, it's still running and draining the battery.

Yes, I understand that perfectly. But is it normal for such a standby "operation" to completely drain the device in 3 days? At first I thought I might have forgotten to turn off the MP3 player but when I checked, there wasn't any MP3 playing at all. Anyway, now that I have managed to keep the reader alive for more than 10 days without any memory cards inserted, I will proceed to test with the MS inserted.
