Assuming it doesn't, it would be interesting to know roughly how long it takes to load 500,1000,2000, 5000 and 10000 books.
It then provide a graph-guide to others, perhaps without 13k of books, but enough to see whether it is going to affect all of us and not just you.

BTW, are your books ePubs, PDFs, etc. or a mixture?

See this Thread for my previous tests.

Mainly ePubs and Lrf's.

I will probably do an experiment during the week and release (auto generate) 1,200 small (2K each) ePub books as a new thread. And get people to give me the timings on their Machines. The whole experiments should take half an hour to complete. That should put this one to bed

dclavey, perhaps you would be interested in this thread. I believe the OP was doing research on the same thing you are interested.

Yep it seems the PRS-505 had the same problem.

- As I suspected -

I have found one use for my 16G SD Card - store talking book MP3's on it!

Perhaps another way of looking at this, would be perhaps a file size limit?, rather than a (amount)file size limit.

The reason I say this is because I currently have about 20 books on the main memory.

However I have around 50 30MB CBR files that have been converted to LRF. I have had numerous problems with tagging and reading files, and with numerous attempts at factory resetting, formatting SD cards & PRO DUO cards, I've just about had enough.

My first initial thought was that Calibre was causing Indexing errors, and indeed it was. Moving too many files onto the PRO DUO card at one time would totally muck my index up.

However after just sticking to the basics (limited tagging, drag and drop files) then allowing the reader to full parse the changes I was able to almost double the amount of readable files on my Card.

Experimenting with higher amounts of files, I discovered a plateau, around 100 files. which equates to about 3GB of additional files. Since then I have reduced to just a core 50 LRF comics, because I wanted to use the Collections feature in Calibre.

I'm pretty positive that there is a bug with the reader as it attempts to re-index a certain amount of data. In my case the rendering of the files was not to blame (since all they were, are <img> tags one after the other).

This might explain the differing variables of books that people are reporting before the reader starts to struggle. And perhaps the issue with cheapo SD/PRO DUO cards.

I have lots of MP3 audio books which are a large size. But only one file approaching 20Meg - The Daily Mail (lots of pictures)

Anyway Waterstones took my machine back today, so I have to wait for my email order to get through now before I can do any more experiments. I did try to do one last experiment this morning putting 2,500 very small ePubs in the Sony's main memory. eBook library had a heart attack. And the Sony reader had correct indexes but no ePubs. Weard!

I am also changing colour from Silver to Black. Perhaps Black machines behave themselves better!

Heh. I love Sony, but hate their tech support and warranty repair service.
My 700 gave up the ghost on me a while back.
They sent me a survey and got back all 0's and 1's along with a one page letter of how they screwed up so beyond comprehension.

It seems they really don't listen until you get lucky and find the right mananager :-)
