I'm with DixieGal on this one. I do most of my reading in either the bath or in bed (only places I can guarantee a bit of peace and quiet) - in both cases I'd be naked.
So, for me, the best reading attire is no attire

The Snuggie is a blanket with sleeves that was originally only available by ordering it from television - see this commercial - but now is available in stores. It is the best thing ever invented. They also make them for children and dogs. I got mine at Target for $15.

Gizmodo has a review of some of the top contenders in wearable blankets:
Snuggie vs Slanket vs Freedom Blanket vs Blankoat I must say that the whole "static electricity" thing makes them sound less attractive. I wonder if there's a natural fibre one? I had a cursory look but couldn't find anything. I get zapped by polyester things, unfortunately :/ |

![]() i guess i was under the same rock as sweetpea, i never heard of them either until now. i suppose i can see the interest of them... maybe... although personally i manage just fine with my regular blanket without sleeves. and since i read a lot in bed, my favourite attire is also "none" (except for the bedclothes). when it's really cold, the sony 700 saves the day ; built-in light means you can stick your head and hands completely under the quilt and read in a nice cozy cave. ![]() Quote:
i don't think we have them here either. i've never heard of them, anyway. seems like it would be really easy to make one if you wanted one ; and you could use a nicer fabric. |

you're right though, it is a good question. i can only assume that the manufacturers are hoping to lead people into a life of immobile sloth, since that way 1. no-one will be walking around, so no tripping and no lawsuits, and 2. lying around means you won't be warming yourself up with exercise, more sales for them !

I've seen the commercials. They get annoying after having seen them a dozen times.
So, are they open in the back like hospital gowns? |

And I've never needed one either, I've been reading with a backlit screen for so long, that I can't even imagine how it is to read in a cold bedroom with my arms above the blanket... (I'll just hide myself completely under it!) |
