Has anyone heard any scuttlebutt about when the thing is supposed to ship, now that it is not October anymore?

Don't trust Irex's "promise". They have failed many customers.

I would say more than to "promise", Irex has a real over-tendency to prematurely "predict" its releases and the capabilities of those releases. I own a Kindle and an Iliad edition 2, and I much prefer the Iliad, even though it has short-comings. The Iliad was two years ahead of the Kindle. If the 800 does what Irex says it will do, watch out Amazon! I already ordered an 800 from Best Buy. I can't wait to order one again! But who knows when that will be? I can wait, and in the mean time, enjoy using my Iliad.

Better to release a device when it's ready than to rush it out to meet some arbitrary deadline.
