I agree with JSWolf: Fictionwise needs to start supporting epub with Adobe DRM if they're going to remain competitive in the marketplace.

I used to shop there all the time, then I bought a Sony Reader. My spending at Fictionwise has fallen off precipitously because they don't sell new bestsellers I can read on my preferred device. Bestsellers draw people to bookstores - they may have tons of non-DRM books that are really wonderful, but that doesn't matter to people who never go to the site.

It would be nice, but I don't know how possible it is if Over Drive won't do business with them. At least until/unless FW's distributor supports epub which AFAIK they don't at this time.

I did the FW survey a week or so ago, and got a 25% off coupon in return. Couldn't find anything at all that I wanted. Today, I had an email that since my coupon expired, they were sending me another code for 25% off. So, I went shopping again. STILL found nothing interesting in ePub or multiformat. It feels like having a purse full of $20's, when you can't get change for the parking meter.

I have a similar problem. I have plenty of micropay credits but without epub or lit on the new ebooks, there is nothing I want to buy. I am certainly not going to spend any further cash at FW until they serve up the formats.

It's a pity: I like Fictionwise - but not enough to spend money there on things I don't want.

Fictionwise has gone through this before. First they come out with the ereader formatted ebooks and then a week or so later, they come out with the Lit formatted ebooks. If after a couple of weeks they still haven't come out with the Lit option for those ebooks, then there might be some cause for concern. I've also noticed that they've been making older books available in only the ereader format.

All of the Discworld books are unavailable for my Sony at FW. But, happily, Sony bookstore has most them. Not all, but most.

I was looking at some of the Pratchett books on Fictionwise, and it says "Secure Adobe". Is that EPub or PDF?

I keep wondering what page dimensions ADE PDF files have...

... I imagine (unless they have multiple PDF files for multiple display sizes) they can only use a 6" (or perhaps now only 5") to ensure optimal display on the smallest proper eBook reading devices... presumably reflowing with tagged-y goodness on anything smaller... and displaying enlarged on larger displays, but still with the static layout pages.

Or am I way off?

I wouldn't be surprised if they were book-sized PDFs.

Now that you mention it, I wouldn't be surprised either.

Wouldn't mind finding out for sure without a financial penalty though.

The one PDF book I own is just a PDF made from the layout for the print book.
