Login, My Account, and then the link is on the left-side bar, E-Books. It's hellish for its navigation, Waterstones' site.

Right, with you now.
Yes you can access the page, and locate the link to download the books, however when you try that another window opens with the advice that you have already completed the download. The only way around it is to phone Waterstones and ask the help desk to reopen the download facility.

Yes, I see it now, after moving, cleaning up etc a file and a file's path. Ouch. So they changed it recently, because early September you could still download it as many times as you wished.

Frankly, makes me want to get into a backup spree, just in case. Idiots.

I know that e-mail customer service is terrible at Waterstones', but it exists... if you're not in the UK you might want to give it a try?

I have had to return and download books from their site on various occasions as I was learning the ropes.

MMMHM. At this point I don't know if I'm going to have a good answer, but I'm going to send them an e-mail asking some questions...

It's funny I ran across this article after logging into MobileRead on my G3 PowerMac
Yes I have problems with the eBook Library software here.
I just ran it a moment ago and it still cannot access the eBook Store. I think something is broken in the software however have no idea how to fix it (reinstallation didn't help).
It does not work with the PRS-500 which I personally define as a big problem (Sony doesn't - maybe things may change with a future firmware upgrade?..)
The only use it has for me as-is is to allow me to upload e-books to a memory stick for my PRS-500.
The software was difficult to get working once installed and I believe I only ever seen the eBook Store once anyhow.
Sony: this software really needs to be updated desperately!

I have called Sony numerous times and they have been unable to help me or figure out what the problem is... my return date is about to pass and I have yet to see any progress from them on fixing this, so I don't know what to do.

Has anyone been able to get this to work?

Thanks.

EBL doesn't recognise PRS-300 on PowerPC MacOS 10.4.11

That's the summary. I get the same "Error" message as others.

The key lines from the console log appear to be
Code:
Nov 12 07:32:24 Kumbo kextd[417]: kld_load_from_memory() failed for module /System/Library/Extensions/sony_prs.kext/Contents/MacOS/sony_prs
Nov 12 07:32:24 Kumbo kextd[417]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/sony_prs.kext
Unable to open device <calibre.devices.prs505.driver.PRS505 object at 0x5bad310>
Sony support ran me around for about 2 hours total, including an escalation.

It turns out that, to get EBL to recognise the reader, I must completely purge the installation, reinstall, reboot, and then connect the reader. EBL will then be able to recognise the reader. Until I close EBL and open it again, at which point it fails once more. This is not a useful work-around.

Without Calibre, my PRS-300 would currently be a frustratingly expensive collection of excerpts. As it is, I can't buy books from the Sony store because I can't put them onto the reader. Are there so few people having this problem that a loss of revenue isn't a problem for them?

I'd had terrible difficulty getting EBL to work at anything other than snail pace with Snow Leopard. That is until l went into EBL Preferences and told it that my region was USA ( l'm actually in the UK ). Problem solved. It now runs relatively ( that is in comparison to how it was ) smoothly, even though the system has defaulted the region back to the UK.

Still not great, but at least it's useable.

Parigby, I bit the bullet, did an erase of SL and relaunch of Leopard. It has resolved my problems with Sony EBL. A couple of months before the issue of SL a patch had been released which enabled Mac users to get their readers recognised by Macs. As soon as I loaded SL the system went chest up.
Other glitches with SL prompted me to wipe and reload.
