No, I saw that, and wondered what was good now. At the time I was posting i was using a dying computer that only had some of the keys working on the keyboard, so making a whole new thread would have been far more difficult than a short reply to the first thing google gave me.

Now that I have a less dead computer but still dying keyboard I can make a new thread w/o worrying the computer will crap out and kill what is a really painstaking task of typing. stupid keyboard. <kicks it> [keyboards have a super short live-span at my house, and I only kick them after they're mostly dead, I swear. they just magically die after entering my house]

The OED is now online, which seems like a good solution. They can keep it updated without re-issuing 20 books or however many CDs.
You have to subscribe to it, though.
Search 'Oxford English Dictionary Online' to find it.
